Welcome to the inaugural edition of Chicago's Most Influential Residential Real Estate Brokers, a special custom content section from Crain's Custom Media.

The 96 brokers featured alphabetically in these pages represent an impressive cross-section of the Chicago-area residential real estate sales community, many of whom have practiced with distinction for decades.

Every profile in this section is drawn from the nomination materials submitted, no broker paid to be featured, and the Crain's Chicago Business newsroom was not involved in creating this content.

To qualify for inclusion, nominated brokers must be based and practicing in Cook County. They must have a minimum five years of experience as a licensed residential real estate broker in the Chicago area. And they must have closed at least $10 million in sales in 2017 with a minimum of eight transactions.

Because this honor is bestowed only upon brokers for whom nominations were submitted, this year's list is not comprehensive. We trust that as this list becomes a new tradition in the Chicago real estate community, the pool of potential honorees will continue to grow. Meanwhile, enjoy reading about the achievements of what is a truly impressive first class, and please join us in congratulating them.

Selling without a team, Marti Corcoran has closed $54 million in sales through 140 transactions over the past three years. One highlight during her 23 years at Coldwell Banker was negotiating a home sale for then-U.S. Secretary of Commerce William Daley while he was aboard Air Force One. Closer to home, Corcoran has been a member of the Edgebrook-Sauganash Chamber of Commerce for 27 years, and a member of the Chicago Association of Realtors for 40 years.

A Realtor since 1983, Sharon Friedman has earned the Coldwell Banker Presidents' Elite or Presidents' Premier awards every year since 2000. In addition, she was also always either No. 1, 2 or 3 out of all agents on the North Shore. In 2010, she joined forces with another top producer on the North Shore, Frank Capitanini, and together they formed the SFC Team, which has been the No. 1 team in volume sold on the North Shore from 2010-2017, other than in 2012 when they were No. 2.
