Approval of Minutes:

Lina Silva, Homeless Initiative Partnership.

Meeting was called to order by Carole Mitchell who began with introductions. Committee attendees introduced themselves.

The committee took a moment of silence in remembrance for the 17-year-old Deerfield Beach High school student who recently passed.

New Business:

Broward County Schools District Homeless Education Liaison (HEART)

4,184 students registered in the HEART program. (Pre-K ? 12th Grade) 3,840 students active in the school system and HEART program. 144 in Pre-K 2,155 in elementary school 798 in middle School 743 in High School

Upcoming Items:

School levels and grades identified with the greatest percentage are students ranging from Pre-K through 5th grade at almost 60%of the total population identified, ranging from 4 to 10 years of age.

Of the 3,840 students identified: 2,967 are doubled up 322 in hotels/motels 308 in emergency shelters 243 as unsheltered 213 students are unaccompanied homeless youth students 154 high school seniors identified

The HEARTS for the Holiday event on December 21, 2019 was a success. There was a total of 211 participants, including 155 students and 56 parents / adults. Also, in attendance was Fort Lauderdale Commissioner Ben Sorensen and his family, who made donations and volunteered in helping with the toy workshop. Dr. Rosalind Osgood, a Broward County School Board Member, was also in attendance, in addition to many other various volunteers and agencies.

? An initiative for Spring, called Reading with HEART, is in the works-students will be provided new books to build a library at home to help promote literacy and improve reading proficiency and academics while on spring break.

? Also planning two local college tours for students.

Homeless Continuum of Care (CoC) Updates:

HIP is hosting their 1st Landlord Recruitment event at the BB&T Center during a Panther's game, to recruit potential landlords that would like to participate with housing homeless individuals for PSH and RRH.

Point in Time Count 2020:

The PIT count will be taking place on January 29th& 30th. Please feel free to register as a volunteer. ()

There are 200 volunteers out of the needed 300. BRHPC is actively recruiting volunteers. Quality Assurance & PIT Liaison Positions available.

Community Liaisons from HEART will survey students 18 years and older for the youth PIT count.

Volunteers will have the option to download the app to complete the survey.

Agency/ Organization: Committee members gave agency updates

Adjournment & Next Meeting: Meeting was adjourned at 2:54pm; next meeting will be held on February 6, 2020.
