When the wood is burnt, energy must be used to evaporate the residual moisture. This requires an expenditure of energy equal to 1050 BTU per pound of water. A realistic estimate of the energy available from well- seasoned wood is about 6050 BTU per pound or 13,367 BTU per kilogram (slightly more for hard wood, less for soft wood). ................
