From the Director-Spring has certainly sprung this week

From the Director-Not much to report for August other than we are loving summer. We are enjoying the weather and sun as much as we can. We love our time outside in the sprinkler or just being outside. Please continue to bring water play clothes so we can keep it up.

Nursery –Our move into nursery 2 room is going great. We love all the new toys, the bigger room and our new schedule is working out better than we thought.

This month’s curriculum is all about “Bugs”. First are Butterflies and Caterpillars. We’ll go outside and watch for creepy crawlies and floating butterflies. Some are work of colorful butterflies and finger painting will be done. And for story time, we will read The Hungry Caterpillar. Our story times are getting longer now that we can sit and point to the pictures. Sometimes we even get some words in. The second week is Flying Bugs. We will do sensory bags of plastic bugs with gel and sand. Art time we can dot our own paper ladybugs? We will even try our hands at some fly swatter painting. Some songs for the week will be, Ants go Marching, Shoo Fly and any other bug or creatures songs we can think of. Week three is Ants and Spiders. Using string we can impersonate a spider web. On our nature walk, maybe we can capture a spider to observe. EWWW! We will continue our play with the plastic bugs and play dough, well we will try it out and see how it goes. For art time we will make an egg carton ant or spider. If you have any extra egg cartons at home, feel free to donate them to our art activities. Thank You! Story time and movement will all be about the Itsy Bitsy Spider. And for our last week it’s all Worms and Grasshoppers. Our sensory bin will be put to use this week with some cooked spaghetti and maybe some soil. Not together. For a treat we will try out our first cooking day. Worms and dirt for all ( chocolate pudding and Oreo cookies). Our favorite movement time will be spending hopping like grasshoppers.

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer, sad to see it’s almost to an end.

Toddlers – Welcome August! Summer is in full swing now. We love being outside daily and enjoy this beautiful weather.

This month our theme is “Frogs and Things”. It will be so much fun! It is a great month to work on our gross motor skills, colors and counting. Week one is “Leap Frog”. Of course we will be learning and playing leap frog. This is a fun interactive way of working on our team work skills and our gross motor skill of jumping and leaping. We will also be learning the song and motions to Three Little Speckled Frogs. Which will help get us a jump start on counting? For the Birds is week two. We will read the book Baby Birds First Nest. To mimic the book we will be making our own nests out of play dough. Bust first as a class we’ll have to make the play dough from scratch and of course collect supplies from outside such as twigs and pine needles. Week three is Tons of Turtles. We will introduce the color green this week. Using all different green colored mediums (paint, tissue paper, crayons, ECT..) we will do turtle crafts. Our book for the week is Turtle Splash. This is a book based on counting to 10. What a great and fun way to reinforce counting. Our final week is Ali the Alligator. We have a fun song to learn.. Three Little Monkeys hanging from a Tree. It incorporates counting and motions. Pretending to be a monkey hanging from a tree, to swimming, to chopping down the tree and acting like an alligator will keep us busy. These are some great gross motor exercises. We are also going to make green slippery goop. They will love it as hands on science is always fun.

August will be busy but a very fun month. It’s exciting to be working on more colors and focusing more on counting. Please check your child’s cubby for weather appropriate clothing and be sure they have extras in there. Thank You!

Preschool – Rooms have finally changed and Preschool 1 would like to Welcome, Morgan, Christian, Jack, Remmie, Sophia, Aiyana, Ahriela and Benson! This upcoming year will be an explosive learning experience. We will be learning to write and recognize our names as well as our numbers and letters. We will also have a more in depth circle time where we will discuss the days of the week as well as social studies and mathematics as they relate to our curriculum.

This month’s curriculum centers on summertime, sunshine, transportation and the great outdoors. As summer comes to an end we will discuss our favorite summertime activities. We will also talk about any vacations the kids may have gone on. We would greatly appreciate it if you would send in some vacation pictures if you have them. If you have any pictures of your child playing outside those would be great as well. We will be focusing on recognizing and recalling the letters in our name as we prepare for writing exercises.

Miss Emma and I are more than excited to start outdoor adventures in learning and growing with the children. We believe it will be a fantastic year.

School Age-Where did the summer go? I can’t believe we are looking at September already.

The kids seem to really be having fun this summer. They are enjoying the themes and the activities that go along. If I had to guess their favorite thing is the food (they love to eat).

We are looking forward to some fun weeks coming up. Willy Wonka week will be a blast, from making food to having a silly dress up day, there is defiantly a buzz around the room. Another week that they are excited for is our Clowning around Week. They will have silly theme days and activities this week.
