This occurs from the time the bell rings until the end of the period and you are dismissed by the teacher/aide. For no reason is anyone to leave any child unattended. Your grade will reflect how well prepared your lesson is and how well you are able to manage the classroom and carry out your lesson. Interaction is key…remember to have fun while still being a role model.Ensure that you are flexible and optimize on all “teachable moments”.A reflection will be written based on your experience with the preschoolers.* If you are absent on your teaching day, you are responsible to turn in 1 current events to excuse your grade. Plan: The planning group will have the entire period to prepare lessons for the next teaching day. It is your responsibility to check what your teaching date, theme, and subjects you will teach. To avoid repeated lessons and inappropriate activities, all lessons must be verbally approved prior to writing the lesson plans. Then have the teacher sign the back of your completed lesson plans 10 minutes before the bell rings…do not wait until the last minute. All materials and samples need to be prepared on this day…NOT YOUR TEACHING DAY!Lesson plans are not to leave the classroom, if the person with the lesson plan is absent on the teaching day, all group members will receive an F for the lesson plans.*If you are absent on your planning day, you are responsible to turn in 2current events to excuse your grade.Observe:You will learn more from observing than any other activity in the class. You are responsible for observing the children, the teachers (your classmates), and their interaction. Here is where you will see what works, and what doesn’t work.No opinion is needed, just facts…it is an objective observation.*If you are absent on your observation day, you are responsible to turn in a current event to excuse your grade.Bookwork:You are responsible for completing the bookwork assignment that is posted for that rotation period. This is the only day you are allowed to complete your assignment, if you are found doing other teachers’ work, then you will receive a zero for the assignment. Assignments will consist of textbook chapters, DCF modules, and CDA competencies.*You are responsible to makeup the assignment on your own.Maintenance:You are responsible for preparing the food to be served during that period as soon as attendance is taken. Once the meal is served this group will also be responsible for cleaning up and putting away all supplies. You are responsible to help keep the preschool clean and tidy. Report to the aide or the teacher if you can not find an area to tend to.If the classroom is clean and organized, this is your time to make up or complete bookwork assignments due to absences (once the classroom is organized). If we all keep the preschool and classroom clean, the less work you have to do on this day!HOW TO WORK WITH CHILDREN AND THEIR PARENTSWORKING WITH YOUNG CHILDREN IS FUN, BUT IT CAN BE HARD WORK AND A BIG CHALLENGETips on interacting with children:Treat children with respect and be positive.Speak politely.Be gentle – do not use physical punishmentGuide positive behavior, do not threaten with punishment.Ask aide or teacher about “time-out” if needed.Use PROPER language – you are a role model!Choosing a “favorite” child is hurtful to the others.Keep classroom environment clean and tidy.Explain that guns hurt people – discourage toy guns or violent play.Avoid social talk with other students – focus on children and their safety!Be professional – watch your physical affection with the children.Give all directions clearly and loudly.Reinforce self-esteem by praising fairly.Supervise and assist children – do not waste teaching/supervision time by making your own preschool project.Keep all information CONFIDENTIAL! If a parent/faculty member asks, refer all questions to your teacher.Be responsible at all times – you are the teacher!!! Pictures of the children are NOT to be posted on social media. Tips on interacting with parents:Treat parents with respect – be positive.Greet parents and children cheerfully as they arrive.Help guide children to the preschool as they say good-bye to their parents.Say good-bye to each child and to parents as they leave.Make sure parents take home parent reminders and sign-out daily.4497705136525T: TeachO: ObservationM: MaintenanceP: Lesson PlanningB: Bookwork00T: TeachO: ObservationM: MaintenanceP: Lesson PlanningB: BookworkRotation for Falcon’s Nest PreschoolGroup #Daily Assignment1TMOPB2BTMOP3PBTMO4OPBTM5MOPBTGrades for the rotation:Teaching Lessons: 1 grade that is doubled in the gradebookLesson Plans: 1 (2 for periods 3 & 4)Reflection of Teaching Activity: 1Observation: 1Bookwork Assignment: 1Once each rotation has been completed, ECE 1 students will teach the children and ECE 2, 3, & 4 students will report to room 803 for whole group instruction.
