Introduce Words for this week: Helping Song: The Caring and Helping Song (Track 15) Brain Builder: Play the Lost and Found game: · Using a musical instrument such as a bell or drum. · Have your students close/cover their eyes and use their listening ears. · Then have a TA play a sound on the instrument. · Ask students to keep their eyes closed and to point in the direction of the missing drum.· Have students open their eyes did they find your TA with the missing drum. Yes! Great job using those listening ears. Let’s play again. Play a few more rounds having your TA with the instrument move to different spots in the room once students’ eyes are closed.Tuesday12/15 Story & Discussion: Use the picture on the poster to share a visual of the story that you are discussing with students. Today's story is about Susie and Jayden. Review how Susie is feeling by looking at the picture. Jayden wants to help Susie feel better. Jayden listens to Susie. Review how listening is a way to show you care about others and their feelings and that because Jayden listened to Susie he can help her fix her problem.Wednesday12/16 Skill Building Activity #1: Have children sit. Then introduce the Boy puppet. He is going to help us practice saying something kind and thinking of ways we can help others. 1. Read the first scenario below and ask: What is a kind thing I can say to____(Boy)? 2. Then ask: What is a helpful thing I can do? 3. Teacher Model: I’m sorry your tower fell over __Boy Puppet__. Can I help you build it again? 4. Have each child say and do something kind and helpful to Boy. 5. Repeat this process with the other scenarios. Scenarios: · Boy Puppet feels sad because he got paint on his shirt. o I’m sorry you got paint on your shirt, and hand him a smock. · Boy Puppet feels angry because the block center he wanted to play in is full. o I’m sorry you are angry but you can come play with me in the kitchen · Boy Puppet feels scared to go outside because it’s really windy. o Its ok to be scared but we can play together outside pretending to fly a kite · Boy Puppet feels sad because his friend is not at school today. o I’m sorry your sad about your friend but will you play with me today?Thursday12/17 Skill Building Activity #2: 1. During morning circle have children share some ideas of how they are helpful in the classroom, to their friends and at home. 2. Have children think of ideas for how they can help in the classroom or at home that day. Write down their ideas on a piece of paper that they can see throughout the day. - If students are slow to provide ideas suggest some and see if they agree and think about some ways, they might do them. 3. Read the ideas back to the children and have each of them pick one to do that day. Make a note of each of their choices. 4. Have them use self-talk and repeat the choices they made. And if you see an opportunity in the classroom for them to be helpful help remind them.5. At goodbye meeting review the list that you came up with as a class and have each child say what he or she did to help. For students who struggle with speech you can provide them with echoic language or tell what you saw them do that was helpful to you or a friend in the classroom. Reinforce this message: When everybody helps in our classroom, it is a happy place to be.
