JOB DESCRIPTION:

This is a full-time position at the WCIL Mar Vista Office. Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Job Developer I is responsible for the development of employment opportunities and placement of WCIL/Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) consumers. This position requires travel within Los Angeles County and occasionally other parts of Southern California. It may require work during in the evenings and on the weekends.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

This position works under general supervision, working alone on routine or regular work assignments and reporting to the Program Manager on non-routine assignments or when in doubt as to the correct procedures to follow.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (Illustrative Only)

• Conduct an initial intake and employment assessment with each new consumer referred from the DOR. Facilitate the development and implementation of consumer driven plans that enhance the consumer’s independence and quality of life. Develop employment goals with the consumer based on the consumer’s skills, interests, income requirements, city of residence and other relevant factors.

• Provide employment preparation to consumers, both individually and in groups, on the topics of interviewing, resume development, application preparation, appropriate work behaviors, and grooming/hygiene.

• Provide job development services to consumers which include direct contact with employers to develop job leads and short-term follow up services up to 90 days after employment. Maintain ongoing file of employer contacts and activities.

• Participate in job development activities, conferences, and meetings coordinated by the DOR (Diversity Employment Source, Jobs in Motion, etc.).

• Maintain consumer files and all documentation as required. Collect and input all required information into the database.

• Participate in WCIL team meetings, ILP meetings and all consumer conferences.

• Read, understand and follow WCIL rules, policies and procedures.

• Use good judgment, discretion, and maintain confidentiality.

• Work well under pressure.

• Carry out all other duties as assigned by the Program Manager or Executive Director. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

(Applicants MUST meet EACH of the minimum qualifications to be considered for an interview.)

• Life experience as a person with a disability or experience working with people with disabilities.

• Education: minimum of a high school diploma and two years of college.

• Familiarity with employment related issues facing people with disabilities including accommodations and adaptive equipment.

• Demonstrated ability to do community outreach to a variety of audiences.

• Demonstrated experience in all facets of employment including resume preparation, interviewing, business expectations, and major job categories.

• Knowledge of EEO requirements and accessibility standards for people with disabilities in the workplace required.

• Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing.

• Ability to operate office equipment (copier/printer, postage machine, and other equipment as needed).

• Experience with Microsoft Office computer programs (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher) and other related software. Experience using Outlook to schedule appointments, write/respond to emails and calendar support.

• Basic computer skills, including the ability to navigate the Internet and various websites for research and information.

• Participate on self-directed work teams and staff committees, as needed.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager or Executive Director.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

(Applicants DO NOT have to meet any of the Desirable Qualifications to be considered for an interview.)

1. Bilingual: Spanish, American Sign Language or an Asian language.

2. Knowledge of the Independent Living Movement philosophy and person-centered practices.

3. Experience working with service and advocacy providers, volunteer organizations and other community groups.
