Role of WORK Unit

The role of the Business Intelligence & Analytics is to monitor, evaluate and report on the performance of the WA Police as a whole, as well as for individual organisational areas within the agency. This office is heavily involved in providing briefings and analyses on performance issues to Parliament, the Minister’s office, the Commissioner, and the Corporate Executive Team on a regular basis, including the Annual Report. Business Intelligence & Analytics is responsible for conducting research into areas that affect organisational performance, such as identified patterns or trends within current statistical indicators, as well as reviewing best practices and programs in performance evaluation for law enforcement agencies internationally.

Business Intelligence & Analytics is committed to providing meaningful and timely performance information to managers at all levels within the police, as well as to other relevant agencies, so as to facilitate and promote effective operational planning. This is done by providing reports directly to internal and external clients, by providing statistical, analytical, and research support to other units within the Directorate, and by representing the agency on several state and national committees.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

Internally, the position liaises regularly with managers and staff of all Directorates, Portfolios and District management.

Externally the position liaises with the Australian Bureau of Statistics and other police, government, research and business organisations.

Decision making role

The incumbent has autonomy to prioritise their workload and manage their time, unless directed otherwise. The incumbent is personally responsible for determining project scope, objectives, research methods, use of statistical techniques, reporting and presentation formats.

Matters that must first be referred to the Executive Manager include changes to unit, directorate, portfolio and corporate policies, procedures and resource allocations; significant changes to project scope and management; advice to external parties on corporate issues or policies; and advice to the Commissioner’s Executive Team.
