Many of you may delve into lead generation, or even host you're your own newsletter. And...if you do so, it is very, VERY important that you get good at copywriting.

In fact, I would say that having or developing solid copywriting skills should be a must for you. You want to be able to capture people's attention and be persuasive in all that you do...both in the spoken word, as well as written word.

So...to make it a bit easier for you and to get your brain moving, I thought I'd include some headline ideas in helping you to be a better writer.

Headlines are the FIRST THING people read and will determine whether or not they read your message, whether you're sending a team email, a marketing email, an email directing someone to a blog post, or writing an actual advertisement to attract people to look at what you do.

The HEADLINE is CRUCIAL! A poorly written headline means low open rates, or very little click-through if your headline is on an ad.

In one of this blog posts, he talked about the TYPES of headlines to use in marketing. Here's a little run down from his blog post:

1. Self-Interest. These headlines talk about a direct and very specific benefit your audience will gain by reading your email.

2. Curiosity. The purpose is to get them to open your email because you were relatively vague and they can't help but open it up to find out what's inside.

3. Offer. People love to buy and they like things that are free. So...anytime you can give a specific offer, state it in your headline.

4. Urgency/Scarcity. These headlines work very well and tell your readers that they must act now. Be careful not to use this too often, as they get old very fast.

5. Humanity/Connection. Sometimes simply reaching out and saying something nice, showing your appreciation can be effective.

6. News. Your audience will love you when you keep them abreast of new announcements or news about the line of work they are in.

7. Social Proof. By far, one of the most powerful elements in marketing...period. People like doing things that others are doing. Using stories and highlighting how people are benefiting form what you have to offer is a solid way to get your email opened.

8. Story. Another powerful way of generating curiosity is telling a story, and using your headline as a way of drawing them in to want to hear the "rest of the story."

Here are some examples of these different types of headlines. Be sure not to simply just copy them, but use them as brain-starters in helping you to come up with your own ideas.

The most important thing you have to remember is that the content that follows your headline must be relevant to what the headline says. Don't just use a headline to get someone to open your email and then say something entirely different in the content. People get mad quickly and will unsubscribe from your list.
