Unpacking the Standards

The goal of this assignment was to focus on a standard that we will be using in our final lesson. Step one instructed us to

write down the standard, the content area, and the grade level that the standard addresses. Step two was to unpack the standard identifying what skills the students will need to master during the lesson and finally step three was to write an effective essential question. In my preschool class, the last unit I will be teaching is nature. Learning the life cycles of animals is the main focus of this unit. I am particularly excited to teach the life cycle of a butterfly which will be my main focus for this project.

Care for living things.

All living things go through life cycles.

Living things have common needs.

Life cycles can be represented in various

Ways.

1. How do different living things change over time?

2. What are some similarities and differences in how living things develop?

3. How do the adults of various animals compare to younger versions of those same

animals?
