Fur Harvesters Auction Inc. thanks everyone for the year's success. Although prices aren't record high, we strive to keep up with demand and highest results possible. This year Trans Canada Trapline Co. announces the promotion of Ken Frederick to warehouse manager and would like to thank Ken for running the store with the quality and pride a person can have in our organization.

As Ken moves up in our organization, R?al Benoit will assume the role as Store Manager. R?al has been working with Ken since October 2021 and will continue to bring quality and service to the trap store.

CEO's Report

The 2022 season marked our third year operating in the midst of the global Covid 19 pandemic. During this time none of the remaining Ranch Fur auctions in Europe were conducted live. All global fur auctions have been done online.

This company had a very good year end for the 2021 season and it was decided to retain the profit and put it aside as 2022 could be difficult. This turned out to be the case as Covid persisted throughout 2022. What was not expected was Russia's invading of Ukraine and the harsh impact this was to have on the fur market. Both these countries have been great customers in support of wild fur purchasing especially of quality goods in a vast variety of species. We are unable to sell to Russia due to sanctions and Ukraine is definitely in no position to buy.

Despite all of this FHA did come through the 2022 season better than expected. Prices are not where any of us are pleased with but due to the above mentioned issues we did realize exceptional clearances on most articles. The one item that we struggled with unexpectedly was muskrats. Interest fell off a month prior to our March auction and has yet to improve. We could have sold out but it would be at levels far less than valuation. We are confident in holding the values we currently have as once China opens up so will interest on muskrats.

Switching gears into the coming season we see some bright spots in the wild fur market. With Russia raging ahead in the Ukraine conflict Russian sable buyers will be hard pressed to travel to St. Petersburg to support the auction let alone feel comfortable sending money to get purchases shipped out. This bodes well for our sable and this did help improve prices and clearances this year in fact.

Beaver has always been a flag ship item for North Bay and prices increased throughout the entire 2022 season to the point we are completely sold out and buyers continue to call needing goods.

China has recently started to open up and lock downs occurring far less which has resulted in increased interest. This will have a tremendous impact on most all wild fur species this coming season if China remains open and travel abroad resumes.

Our intention is to hold traditional live auctions this coming season even if the Russia/Ukraine conflict is not resolved. We are looking at a early March auction selling the 4th, 5th and 6th, and a May auction selling 28th, 29th & 30th.

Coyotes we all knew were on their way down and we kept to our advertised plan to meet the market on all but the better eastern and quality western sections. This resulted in about a 60% year end clearance on coyotes. This is an item that does not store well and 100,000 coyotes take up a lot of cold storage.
