A tea party leader in Mississippi rues the day that women won the right to vote. Women, she argues, are just too emotionally unstable and untrustworthy for the franchise. Yes, you read that right: The person making the case against women's suffrage is Central Mississippi Tea Party () President Janis Lane, herself a beneficiary of the 19th Amendment.

I was so aghast at this statement that I wanted to do a little checking from other sources and found that the statement was made back in June. I am therefore disappointed that more attention was not placed on it earlier, and I was hoping to find someone holding her accountable to substantiate the comment about "mean, hateful women". I, for one, cast my vote for the candidates I believe have the best interest of family at heart. I do not know what is mean and hateful about that.

I totally love the number of super-ignorant people defending this woman's statements. GUYS. A member of your party said something offensive and dumb. You don't have to close your eyes, jam your fingers in your ears, and go LA LA LA LA SHUT UP EVERYTHING WE SAY IS RIGHT LA LA LA LA. You actually can speak out against ignorance and, by extension, make your party and your goals seem more intelligent and sympathetic. Look at what happened after the "legitimate rape" comments. Nearly every Republican jumped ship on Todd Akin so they wouldn't be associated with his blatant stupidity. Believe it or not, you don't actually have to defend ignorance, or embrace it!
