Partner A

You are an oncologist examining a patient’s tumor for cancerous cells. A liver cell is tagged with a radioactive dye that stains DNA. Create a poster model of the “tagged” cell showing it undergoing each stage of mitosis. A brief description of the events in each stage of mitosis should accompany your model as well as a picture of a cell in each mitotic stage.

Partner B

You are a reproductive genetic counselor explaining spermatogenesis and oogenesis to a couple in your office. Create a poster model of an egg and sperm cell that depicts the events occurring in each stage of meiosis. A brief description of the events in each stage of meiosis should accompany your model as well as a picture of a cell in each meiotic stage.

Cell Models

• The cell models will be drawn on a poster-board

• Use yarn or pipe cleaners to accurately represent three chromosomes undergoing mitosis and meiosis

• Beads will be used as centromeres on the chromosomes

• Appropriate cell structures will be colorful in appearance

Written Descriptions

• Each stage of mitosis and meiosis will have an accurate, but brief description of all events occurring during that stage

• Description will be written neatly, or typed, in students own words

• All grammar and spelling is correct
