• Designed and conducted community based research on behaviour risk assessment of HIV/AIDS among rickshawpullers and factory workers of eastern Nepal; the study report was published by the UNDP.

• Designed and conducted community based research on sexual and health seeking behaviour on sexually transmitted diseases among Muslim, Tharu and Jhangad communities of eastern Nepal (minor communities) and published two articles in the journals.

• Managed epidemic in camp settings.

COMMUNITY BASED RESEARCH PROJECTS

1. ‘HIV/STIs sero-prevalence and risk behaviours among women and their spouses in eastern Nepal’ – a thesis submitted to the Department of Public Health, Flinders University of Australia for the partial fulfilment of the requirements of the Masters of Primary Health Care Degree, 2002 (Graded Distinction). This was an independent community based study project in one of the remote districts of Nepal with involvement of community people in research design, data collection, and dissemination of study findings. The study findings were presented and disseminated and were utilized in designing health education and preparing information, education and communication (IEC) materials.

2. Evaluation of HIV/AIDS intervention of AIDS Council of South Australia’ – a project paper submitted to the Department of Public Health, Flinders University of Australia for the partial fulfilment of the requirements of the Masters of Primary Health Care Degree, 2002 (Graded Distinction). This was an independent theory based evaluation project prepared by doing 12-month internship in AIDS Council working with program managers and beneficiaries. The study findings were presented and disseminated and were utilized in designing health education and preparing IEC materials.

3. ‘Evaluation of Food Coop program of Clovelly Community Health Center of Adelaide, South Australia’ – a project paper submitted to the Department of Public Health, Flinders University of Australia for the partial fulfilment of the requirements of the Masters of Primary Health Care Degree, 2002 (Graded Distinction). This was an independent theory based evaluation project prepared by doing 6-month internship in Community Health Center working with program managers and beneficiaries. The study findings were presented and disseminated and were utilized in designing health education and preparing IEC materials.

4. ‘Knowledge, attitude, behaviour and practice assessment of HIV/AIDS among rickshawpuller and factory worker of Sunsari district’. Kathmandu, Nepal: Nepalese Ministry of Health and United Nations Development Programme, 1999. This was the research report of independent community based operational research done in one of the rural districts of Nepal during my one year assignment with United Nations Development Programme. The study findings were presented and disseminated at the district level and were utilized in designing health education programs and preparing IEC materials.

5. ‘District health management profile of sindhupalchowk district, Nepal" - a study report submitted to Department of Community Medicine, Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University, Nepal for the partial fulfillment of the requirements of the Bachelor of Public Health degree, 1997. This was the project report prepared in a team by spending a month in one of the rural districts of Nepal working with district level program managers. The study findings were presented and disseminated at the district level and as well as central level.

6. ‘Community diagnosis of Chainpur Village Development Committee, Dhading district, Nepal’- a report submitted to the Department of Community Medicine, Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University, Nepal for the partial fulfillment of the requirements of the Bachelor of Public Health Degree, 1996. This was the project report prepared in a team by spending a month in one of the rural communities of Nepal working with program managers and beneficiaries at the community level. The study findings were presented and disseminated and were incorporated to design intervention. We also designed and implemented intervention program with community involvement.
