The Values Advocacy Council was formed in 2003 to be a non-partisan voice for Judeo Christian values in public policy matters. We work to help elected and non-elected officials make values based decisions and take values oriented actions. We work to bring our church community together to worship and to serve.

What the Bible says about how to choose officials and one of the foundations for the Republican form of Government: Exodus 18:21 ...you shall select from all the people competent men who [reverently] fear God, men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain; you shall place these over the people as leaders (officials) of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties and of tens. Mike Honda ? Incumbent ? Democrat Congressman Honda has been in office since 2000. Prior to his U.S. House career, he served in California State Assembly form 1997-2000. Congressmen Honda is one of the most reliable Democratic voters, meaning he can be considered a safe vote for the Democratic Party in Congress.

Ron Cohen ? Republican Mr. Cohen has worked for several national CPA firms and in the tax departments of multi-billion dollar companies including Pacific Telesis Group and KLA-Tencor. He started his own practice in 2003 and merged into his current firm. Mr. Cohen considers, himself, politically conservative and supports the policies of Ron Paul. He is a member the Alameda County Republican Central Committee.

Ro Khanna ? Democrat Mr. Khanna was appointed by Pres. Obama to serve a U.S. Department of Commerce Deputy Secretary. He served for two years. He currently works for the law firm of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. He has a B.A. in economics and a law degree from Yale University.

Peter Kuo ? Republican Mr. Kuo graduated Leadership in Life institute and has a B.S Aviation Operation, San Jose State University. He is founder of Silicon Valley International Group ? and CEO of Peter Kuo Insurance Agency.

Pierluigi Oilverio ? Democrat Mr. Oilverio has represented San Jose District 6 on the San Jose City Council for 10 years. He has over 21 years of private sector, high-tech work experience in the semiconductor and software industries.

Anna Eshoo ? Incumbent ? Democrat Congresswomen Eshoo was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1992. Eschoo is, considered, an average Democratic member of congress, meaning she will vote with the Democratic Party on the majority of bills.

Bob Harlow ? Democrat Mr. Harlow earned is B.S in Physics from Stanford. He worked for the Obama campaign in 2008.

Richard Fox ? Republican Dr. Fox is running for Congress as Libertarian/Republican. Dr. Fox's focus in on smaller Government which he believes will strengthen the economy. He is a practicing pediatrician. He holds a B.A. from Michigan State University and M.D. from the University of Minnesota and a J.D from Santa Clara University. He is also CEO of BayCare Medical Group Attorney, The Fox Law Office (Healthcare Law). His website lists him as Pro-Choice.

Zoe Lofgren ? Incumbent ? Democrat Congresswomen Lofgren was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1994. Lofgren is considered an average Democratic member of Congress, meaning she will vote with the Democratic Party on the majority of bills.

G. Burt Lancaster ? Republican Mr. Lancaster is principal of Lancaster Resolve Technology and an international consultant to high technology companies. He attended the California Martine Academy and has a Bachelor of Science degree. He also served as an officer in the United Sates Navy.

If you'd like to know the VAC's stances on certain issues and how we've logically and rationally come to those stances, please join us for our monthly Luncheons.

1 Davis: Potentially will support the VTA tax and the Bay flood control parcel tax 2 Von Raesfeld: Tax increases: Not generally, .., would support allowing the voters to decide through an election. Would require a 2/3 voter approval and the funds are restricted to the purposes the tax was issued for. 3 I'm a retired Oakland Firefighter union member (Retired in 1987 due to a lung injury from a fire), was a member of local 55. I'm not an active member of Local 55. 4 Davis: Many churches are located in residential areas, and I think churches should have the ability to run shelters on their property. 5 Davis: As an adoptive mother of two, I would prefer that more women would choose adoption over abortion. 6 Davis: I think abortion needs to remain as safe a procedure as possible, which means it has to be legal in the 1st trimester & somewhere into the 2nd. It should not be legal in the 3rd trimester. 7 Khamis: I object to abortions after the first trimester. 8 Davis: Medical marijuana has been shown to be an effective treatment for many illnesses and needs to continue to be available. 9 Von Raesfeld: Non-Medical Marijuana. 10 Khamis: It should be treated like medication. 11 Sodergren: Non-Medical 12 Khamis: I supported Mayor Liccardo and DA Jeff Rosen in their stance on turning over undocumented immigrants to ICE. 13 Davis: I support the Second Amendment. Restrictions should be limited to individuals with mental health issues or certain criminal convictions. 14 Von Raesfeld: As a gun owner I know it is not the guns that are the problem, it is bad people with guns, which is why good people need them. 15 Davis: This should be done without using government funds and with equal opportunity for all religious beliefs. 16 Von Raesfeld: Depends on what would be displayed and for what purpose. 17 Davis: This type of legislation would be unconstitutional. 18 Von Raesfeld: I am not aware that there is a problem in this area and I am not entirely sure of what the issue is.
