OPERATIONS RESEARCH/SYSTEMS ANALYST (ORSA)

CAA Strategic Endstate: People, processes, and products directly support Army organizations and leadership, operational forces, and coalition operations on the most important strategic challenges and Army-wide issues facing land power, national defense, and national security.

CAA Vision: CAA is the recognized authority on the independent analysis of land warfare interests in a joint and combined context.

CAA Mission: CAA conducts decision support analyses across the spectrum of conflict in a Joint, Interagency, Intergovernmental, and Multinational (JIIM) context to inform critical senior level decisions for current and future national security issues.

Location: CAA is located at the Army’s flagship installation, Fort Belvoir, Virginia which has easy access from I-95, the Fairfax County Parkway, and Richmond Highway.

Organization: CAA’s analytical mission is divided among ten analysis divisions. CAA leverages the capability, expertise, and experience of its career civilian and military staff to provide analysis through wargaming, modeling, simulation, and other quantitative techniques to support Geographical Combatant Commands (GCCs); Army Service Component Commands (ASCCs); Operational Joint Commands; Headquarters, Department of the Army (HQDA); and others. CAA maintains a global footprint with opportunities at the Pentagon, within GCC Headquarters, and deployed to operational headquarters supporting current operations.

Who We Need: CAA seeks applicants with a strong background and professional interest in operations research, data science, computer science, statistics, and mathematics. The ACDP is a formal training and development program; civilians hired under this authority are full-time employees on a 2 or 3 year excepted appointment, depending on their educational qualifications. CAA provides quantitatively-oriented students with an interesting and challenging career opportunity that directly supports national security.

Major Duties: Serve as a member of a research study team charged with evaluating U.S. Army personnel, equipment, and facilities requirements and capabilities by utilizing a wide range of analytical techniques including: mathematical modeling, optimization, discrete event simulation, data visualization, computational statistics, and informatics. Plan and coordinate all (or some) aspects of the project, including study design, research, data collection, analysis, presentation and documentation. Use and/or develop tools, models, and techniques in response to evolving issues and complex analytic challenges.

Education Requirement: Candidates must possess a degree in operations research or at least 24 semester hours of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject matter courses requiring substantial competence in college level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

Starting Salary: Center for Army Analysis offers competitive starting salaries. Your recruiter will provide specific salary information at the appropriate time. Student loan repayment is also possible depending on education/experience.

Working Schedules: 40 hour week; Compressed Work Schedule and Telework opportunities are available.
