YOUR EFFORTS TO TREAT OTHERS FAIRLY, HONESTLY AND WITH RESPECT ARE IMPORTANT TO EVERYONE WHO WORKS WITH YOU.BRIEFLY DESCRIBE THE POSITIONS ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING AND MAJOR FUNCTIONS: The Stationary Engineer Coastal Camps is under the general direction of the Chief Engineer performs a variety of skilled work in the operation, maintenance and repair of kitchen equipment, refrigeration equipment and laundry equipment in the Coastal Camps. The Stationary Engineer supervises inmate crews, maintain accurate inmate time cards and related records; prepares estimates for equipment, supplies and the installation and repair of machinery and equipment; requisitions materials, supplies and parts necessary for maintenance and operation to ensure the continued operations of physical plant; keep work areas, tools and equipment in good/clean working condition; keeps records, prepares reports and assist with scope of work for vendor service contracts. Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor. Maintain work areas, tools, and materials in the performance of daily maintenance activities to ensure the safety and security of the institution/facility utilizing material and tool control procedures (e.g., tool inventory and keys control procedures etc.). Conduct daily tool inventory for the shop/work area at the beginning and end of each work shift. You are to follow the tool control guidelines as set forth in Department Operations Manual (DOM) Section 52040. Conduct daily inmate accountability by visually viewing all inmate workers at least once per hour. Inspect and search premises to ensure the work environment is free from contraband (e.g. weapons, drugs, tobacco, etc.).The Coastal Camp Engineer will be responsible for Camps #6 Parlin Fork, #17 Chamberlain Creek, #20 Alder, #27 Konocti, #31 Eel River and North Coast Warehouse, #32 High Rock. The engineer will be based at California Correctional Center (CCC), or an alternate location as approved by your supervisor based upon your home residence location. In the absence of other Camp Engineer’s due to vacation or vacancy, you will be required to assist in maintaining the camps assigned to that Camp Engineer.When inmate workers are transported to a Camp to effect needed maintenance all meals are provided by the respective camp; with no exceptions. Upon arrival at the “away camp” (other than the camp where the inmate is assigned), the inmate will be signed in. Their I.D’s are given to camp personnel in charge. When an escape or attempted escape occurs the Camp Commander of the “home Camp” must be notified. You as their supervisor must notify CCC’s Correctional Captain and the Camp Office Associate Warden immediately.% of time performing dutiesDuties/Essential Functions:35%20%20%10%10%5%100%Inspect and trouble shoot electrical and mechanical systems and equipment to identify repairs needed. Assist other engineers with the operation and maintenance of refrigeration, heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, sewage plant treatment systems, boilers and numerous other physical plant functions, as needed, to meet the needs of the department. Maintain safe and habitability environmental conditions in various work areas throughout the camps.Work alone or with an inmate crew on special repairs or projects as assigned throughout the camps; monitor operating pressure and temperature indicators to verify operating conditions of various equipment. Ensure efficient, safe and reliable operation of all newly installed machinery and equipment. Identify abnormal operating parameters and conditions to prevent costly damage to machinery.Work alone or with an inmate crew in the day-to-day physical plant housekeeping duties required to maintain a safe and clean work environment. Perform scheduled maintenance and repair on camp equipment to ensure compliance with Federal and/or State mandates. Maintain the order of inmates in the performance of their duties to ensure safety and security of the camps/facility, staff in accordance with departmental/operational procedures.Assist in the coordination and support of plant operations staff in response to emergencies and/or other forms of disruptions (e.g., natural disaster utility disruptions, etc.) as needed. Perform emergency repairs on a wide variety of plant machinery and equipment as necessary. Monitor, evaluate and identify any operational problems with equipment to ensure the health and safety of staff and inmates. Complete and process the inmate workers time cards and job performance reports in the Strategic Offender Management System (SOMS) in a timely manner. All documents must be kept in a secure location and accessed by authorized staff only. Assist other trades staff in the maintenance and repair work throughout the institution/facility when needed.Maintain records, logs, readings, etc. to ensure compliance with laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures as required by federal, state and local agencies. Maintain records of supplies and materials needed to perform preventative maintenance and/or emergency repairs to maintain the physical plant. Perform other related work as requested by supervisor.Required Trainings and Policy and Procedures (if applicable)In addition to the above duties, you are responsible for being fully acquainted with:Calif.
