University Calculus Elements with Early Transcendentals, by Hass, Weir and Thomas.

Chapter 1, sections 1.3-1.4, & 1.6-1.8: Functions and Limits; Chapter 2, sections 2.1-2.11 & 2.13: Differentiation; Chapter 3, sections 3.1-3.7: Applications; Chapter 4, sections 4.1-4.5: Integration.

Prerequisites

Besides passing MATH 109 with a grade of C or better or getting at least a B in a trigonometry-based high school math course, a prerequisite for MATH 226 is an "acceptable score on the department's Calculus readiness test. The test will be accessible at . Students must provide proof of meeting these prerequisites.

Tests and Grading

Homework on MML will be assigned throughout the week and will be due on Thursday of the following week. There will be:

• four quizzes (30 min);

• one midterm exams (75 min);

• one final exam (120 min).

Grade will be based on 20% HW and attendance, 30% three best quizzes, 20% midterm and 30% final. No make-up tests will be given except for compelling and well documented reasons.

Instructor Policy

Students are expected and encouraged to participate and ask questions. Attendance at lectures and lab meetings is mandatory and instructor will take random rolls. Students should behave respectfully and courteously toward instructors and other students. Student complaints, if any, must be made privately and outside class. Cell phone use is strictly prohibited during class. Students must ensure that no device (cell phone, pager, etc) ring and must avoid making any disturbing noises during class. Students whose conduct violates any of these rules will be asked to leave immediately for the remainder of the class meeting. Late students will be turned away. The instructors may reseat students during tests. Students are allowed a pocket calculator and notes (one sheet for quizzes, two for midterms and three for final) during tests.
