Towed Vehicle Information
The State of California Vehicle Code allows for vehicles to be removed from locations the driver was arrested and or cited and released. The authority provided to police officers to remove vehicles is contained in the California Vehicle Code under section 22651.
It has been determined through investigation (officer’s observations) and the Department of Motor Vehicles that you were not in possession of a valid driver’s license, were in possession of an expired driver’s license or that your driving privilege has been Suspended/ Revoked at the time of officer contact. Therefore, the vehicle was removed from the location with the authority granted under the California Vehicle Code.
Officers may also remove (tow) vehicles from any public roadway, alleyway, or from private property in conjunction with a criminal investigation and where the California Vehicle Code allows.
The vehicle which you were operating has been legally towed from the location and is being stored at a local storage facility. The Orange Cove Police Department is not affiliated in any way with the tow company or storage facility. The Orange Cove Police Department is not responsible for theft occurring at the storage facility while your vehicle is stored there.
In order for the vehicle to be released, the Registered Owner or his/her representative, must provide proof of a valid driver’s license, proof of current registration and proof of current California Automobile Insurance. The registered owner of the vehicle or his/her representative must show proof of payment before a vehicle release will be given by the Orange Cove Police Department. Once the release is given by the Police Department, the registered owner or his/her representative is still responsible for any fees charged by the tow company and/or storage facility, as these are separate fees not related to the Orange Cove Police Department release fees. If there are any questions regarding the removal of your vehicle, please contact any member of the Orange Cove Police Department or access the California Vehicle Code at your local library, or the State of California website.
