How to Develop a Strong Statement of Qualifications

Facilitated by:

Lorna M. Fong, former Assistant Secretary

California Health and Human Services Agency

Juney Lee, Chief Deputy Director

California Department of Child Support Services

All Career Executive Assignment (CEA) examinations and more Staff Services Manager positions now require a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ). This three-hour session will give a participant the opportunity to fine tune and strengthen his/her SOQ so that the examination review committee/hiring panel will be able to more clearly understand the applicant’s knowledge, skills and abilities.

Objectives:

✓ To understand the requirements of a SOQ.

✓ How an SOQ relates to the application form and résumé.

✓ Pitfalls to avoid when applying for jobs that require a SOQ.

Who Should Attend: APSEA members who are considering a position (manager level or CEA) that requires a SOQ as part of the application for the examination process or hiring process.

What to Bring:

- current résumé

- current STD 678 (state application)

- copy of your current SOQ

- copy of examination notice/vacancy announcement that requires a SOQ

- notebook and pen/pencil

This will truly be an informative training event. Please come prepared!
