1st Semester Grades - Camas High School

Dear CHS Parents and Guardians:

We hope that everyone had a restful Winter Break and is off to a positive start in 2012.

Believe it or not, we are entering the home stretch of 1st Semester and we wanted to pass along a few important news items and dates:

1st Semester Grades This is a crucial time for our students as we have just hit the 15-week mark of the 1st Semester and, in some cases, they can make or break their grades during the next few weeks. Like last year, I have encouraged our students to do whatever it takes to "make" good grades instead of doing (or not doing) what "breaks" them. The current grade is a 12-week progress grade that exists in the grade book whereas the semester grade is permanent and will live on for many years on a transcript.

Students need to keep in mind the idea of doing whatever they can do to raise their grades or, at a minimum, ensure that it does not drop from their current levels. If appropriate, encourage your student to meet with their teachers during conference period after school. Conference period runs from 2:25-2:55 PM Monday ? Friday.

If you have not done so recently, please take a moment to check your student's grades on Skyward Family Access (link here: and instructions below). Should you have any questions contact your student's teacher directly via email. You may also contact your student's counselor:

Speaking of grades, semester grades will be sent home via U.S. Mail on Wednesday, February 8. So, plan ahead and beat your student(s) to the mailbox!

1st Semester Finals Here is the schedule for 1st Semester Finals:

Wednesday, Jan. 25* Thursday, Jan. 26** Friday, Jan. 27**

Periods 1 & 6 Testing begins @ 10:15 AM Periods 2 & 5 Testing begins @ 9:45 AM Periods 3 & 4 Testing begins @ 9:45 AM

*Wednesday. Jan. 25 is a true "late start" schedule, with classes beginning at 10:15 AM and buses running

2 hrs. 20 min. later than normal.

**Thursday Jan. 26 and Friday Jan. 27 are on a "PLC Friday" schedule, which means buses will run on their

usual pick-up schedule, but testing will not begin until 9:45 AM. Students who arrive on campus prior to 9:45 AM will be in "study hall." Students who do not ride the bus may elect to come to school late ? as long as they are in their seats by 9:45 AM!

It is kind of complicated, but trust me, students will have it all figured out and we will send out email reminders beforehand to help you keep these days straight!

This is an opportunity for parents to meet and share information with me and the CHS Admin Team. This meeting will revolve around the question: "Where is CHS headed?" Topics will include: 2011-12 School Improvement Plan and Magnet School Proposal. Additional topics will be generated by those in attendance, time permitting. I hope you can attend.

For Senior Parents Our seniors are just a few months away from all of the post-secondary opportunities that await them after graduation. Recently we have passed along a lot of information regarding scholarships, financial aid deadlines, and college planning events. We encourage you to check out the CHS Senior Grad Site - click here to view. Also, don't forget to check in with your student regarding the upcoming Senior Project deadlines.

For Sophomore Parents Stay tuned to your email! In the weeks to come, we will be sending out information on the Washington State High School Proficiency Exams (HSPE) that will begin in March.

Hope to see you at the Hoops 4 Pink basketball double header and breast cancer fundraiser this Friday. Go Papermakers!
