Parents’ letter13.10.2015Dear parents,We would like to inform you about conducting assessment tests (AT) and the Cambridge Progression Tests in English, Math and Science at the International School.Students sit regular assessment tests three times a year in a range of subjects. These assessment tests are created by the subject teacher based on the topics taught in class. Years 2 to 8 sit Cambridge Progression Tests in English, Mathematics and Science in the third term. The Progression Tests are standardized exams for Primary and Secondary 1 students which are set by the Cambridge Examination Board. Teachers mark the papers internally according to the marking scheme which is provided by Cambridge. All marks will be entered to the Progress Checker which is as a new tool to analyze students’ performance and to give feedback to you as parents enabling you to trace the progress of your child in the years to come. The usual routine will be to have all the papers for the different stages at the end of the school year. As you may have seen in previous years these tests are of a high standard. The syllabus for English and Mathematics have been condensed in the Primary section and the syllabus for Science in the years 6 to 8 to allow completion of the programmes at the end of Year 8.For the report card at the end of the school year every subject teacher will comment and grade the student’s performance of all three terms. The print-out of the Progress Checker will be given out with the report card to show the results of the Progression Tests and state areas which need practice. Please note that the Progression Tests will not be given back to the students and we do not offer possibilities to see the papers. Year 9 and 10 students prepare for their IGCSE exams in the spring session of Year 10.. Their AT in all exam subjects which are designed by the respective subject teacher usually consists of questions from previous exam papers. The second and last AT in Year 10 is a Mock Paper and students sit one complete old question paper per subject considering their choice for core and extended syllabus in the subject.Progression Tests EnglishEnglish / Year1st term2nd term3rd term1no ATno ATAT2ATATstage 3paper 1 or 23ATATstage 44ATATstage 55ATATstage 66AT ATstage 77ATATstage 88ATATStage 99ATATAT10ATMock paperIGCSE examsProgression Tests MathematicsMaths/ Year1st term2nd term 3rd term1no ATno ATAT2ATATAT3ATATstage 44ATATstage 55ATATstage 66ATATstage 77ATATstage 88ATATStage 99ATATAT10ATMock paperIGCSE examsScience/ Year1st term2nd term 3rd term1no ATno ATno AT2no ATno ATno AT3ATATstage 34ATATstage 45ATATstage 56ATATAT7ATATstage 88ATATStage 99ATATAT10ATMock paperIGCSE examsProgression Tests ScienceAdditionally, Year 6 students sit the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint Test in English and Mathematics in autumn, the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint Test Science in spring. The Cambridge Checkpoint feedback reports help our school to make strategic decisions, drawing on a pool of results information. The feedback gained from Cambridge is also an invaluable source of information for learners and parents, providing them with a transferable indication of academic progress and achievement. Please do not hesitate to contact us in case of any questions.Sincerely,Arundhati MukherjiAnne K?nekeAcademic DeanCambridge Examination Coordinator ................
