• LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GRANADA (FOR UNDERGRADUATE & MASTER STUDENTS):

Applicants nominated (undergraduate and master) by their home university for a scholarship MUST provide an official language proficiency certificate before they can receive an invitation letter for their stay at the Universidad de Granada. Language proficiency should be expressed in terms of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for Languages regarding speaking, writing, listening and reading. An adequate knowledge of the language of instruction (minimum level B1) according to the CEFR is required.

It is mandatory for undergraduate and master students to submit a language proficiency certificate issued by an official institution listed in the file below:

-          BUSINESS LANGUAGE TESTING SERVICE (BULATS)

-          DIPLOMA DE ESPAÑOL COMO LENGUA EXTRANJERA (DELE)

-          THE EUROPEAN LANGUAGE CERTIFICATES (TELC)

If applicants cannot provide one of the official language proficiency certificates issued by one of the organizations mentioned in the list recognized by our university, there is a possibility that they take the University of Granada official Spanish examination (organized three times per year by the Centro de Lenguas Modernas of the University of Granada), which can be sent to partner universities so applicants do not have to travel. Applicants passing the examination may receive an official accreditation certificate from the Centro de Lenguas Modernas on payment of the corresponding fees. In order to send the examination to your institution, it is necessary for you to sign a confidentiality agreement, which is a guarantee for the University of Granada that the exam will be taken in regular conditions, supervised by a member of the academic staff at your university, and not disclosed either before or after the examination date. Please see the link below for further information on the exam:

Language requirements at the UGR for incoming undergraduate and master’s students.

In the light of regional legislation, university regulations and recommendations from the European

Commission, undergraduate and master Erasmus+: Erasmus students coming to the University of

Granada are required to demonstrate a minimum level (B1) of proficiency in the language of

instruction (primarily Spanish, plus a modest academic offer in English).

In order to accredit the required level (B1), applicants must provide a certificate of competence,

according to CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

If an official language proficiency certificate cannot be provided at the beginning of selection process,

applicants may submit other certificates that indicate a sufficient level of language competence in

order to be pre-selected. Later on, undergraduate and master students pre-selected MUST provide an

official language proficiency certificate before they can initiate their stay at the Universidad de

Granada.

been recognized at national and European level. It is organized twice a year (June and December),

and its online format facilitates that it can be taken at the home university prior to the mobility,

providing applicants with further opportunities to fulfil the language requirement.

Partner institutions may host the exam occasionally (for a particular call) or become an eLADE Exam

Certified Test Examination Site:

If a partner institution has designed or administers a language proficiency exam which is not

included in the list of certificates accepted by UGR, it can be submitted in order to be examined by the

university-wide committee for language accreditation. Certificates meeting the international

standards applied in the table mentioned above will be accepted. The language proficiency should be

expressed in terms of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages regarding

speaking, writing, listening and reading. Notwithstanding, the Universidad de Granada reserves the

right to accept or refuse any non-official language proficiency certificate which does not guarantee

those standards on an individual basis during the nomination phase.

In addition to this, the UGR also recognizes a number of situations where students are exempt from

submitting certificates of competence:

1. Students who have already obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in the language of instruction

(English or Spanish), which might be especially the case of some master’s students.

2. Students who have already obtained a degree in a Spanish-speaking or an English-speaking

country or university, when these are the languages of instruction.

3. Students who have obtained the Diploma granting access to University studies according to

the Spanish system, or according to any system whose language of instruction is English.

Furthermore, the UGR grants admission without the language accreditation requirement to the

following Bachelor’s programmes in languages to undergraduate students who are enrolled in

equivalent degrees at their home university:

- Bachelor’s Degree in English Studies.

- Bachelor’s Degree in French Studies.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Modern Languages and Literatures: Chinese, Italian, Russian and

Hebrew (only students who have already completed two academic years at the home

university).

- Bachelor’s Degree in Arabic and Islamic Studies (only students who have already completed

two academic years at the home university).

On top of all this, the UGR offers free online resources for the enhancement of students’ linguistic

competences, with a view to facilitate the preparation of the accreditation exam as well as the

mobility:
