AQUINAS COLLEGEAS FILM STUDIES COURSEWORK – Part 1 of 2DIGITAL STORYBOARDNAME: GEORGIA BUCKLEYCANDIDATE NUMBER: 0171TITLE OF PROJECT: ‘KATIE’NUMBER OF SHOTS: 20Shot 1 – Int./Day-114301970405This shot is a panning shot. It begins on one side of the bedroom and gradually reaches the main character, Katie, asleep in bed. It is a dull shot to communicate that it is early morning and possibly to reflects Katie’s mood to begin with. It is also an asymmetrical medium shot, which also allows negative space to be created. DURATION: Approximately 8 seconds it is a panning shot, so it will begin showing the settings of the bedroom and gradually pan towards the bed where the character is sleeping.EDITS: FADE IN; the shot will begin by fading from a black screen to the panning shot of the bedroom.SOUND: a.) Music – None b.) Sound Effects – Birds tweeting, Traffic noise, Rain on the windowsShot 2 – Int./Day2235201875790This shot is a medium close up as it is a chest shot. The shot shows us Katie being sharply awoken by her alarm, reaching to turn it off, it is a sharp fast shot and is simply a method of showing the characters day from the beginning. It again remains dull to communicate as before, her mood/early morning. The camera is also at a slightly higher angle than being on level with her, possibly to show the vulnerability of Katie.DURATION: This shot lasts approximately 5 seconds – the camera is simply focused on Katie.EDITS: CUT – we see an immediate change from shot 1, when shot 2 begins she will be laid in a different position and then the alarm sounds.SOUND: a.) Music – Noneb.) Sound Effects – Alarm sound, continuing of birds tweeting and traffic noise, Yawning, Moaning, Rain on the windowsShot 3 – Int./Day546101810385This shot is an over the shoulder shot that also enables us to clearly see the characters face for the first time in a lighter environment than before. It allows the audience to see that the character is getting ready and we can also see what she sees – her point of view. Although the shot is brighter than before, it is still considerably dull, to continue to reflect her mood and that it is morning time. The quick jump cut method could be to show us how quick she is getting ready – she needs to be somewhere.DURATION: This shot lasts approximately 6 seconds – the camera continues to be simply focused on Katie’s face in the mirror.EDITS: JUMP CUT – From shot 2, a jump cut would be used to introduce shot 3, it is a discontinuous transition between shots used to surprise the audience. SOUND: a.) Music – Noneb.) Sound Effects –Electric toothbrush sound, Tap runningShot 4 – Int./DayThis over the shoulder shot shows the character going through her wardrobe looking for an item of clothing and then picks out a shirt, which may lead the audience to presume she is getting ready for work. From this shot, we have a realistic view of what she is doing/sees. It is as light as before, but still remains fairly dull – again showing her mood – it will remain this way for a majority of the shots.1905090805DURATION: This shot lasts approximately 5 seconds.EDITS: CUT – we see an immediate change from shot 3 to shot 4, again shows us how she is getting ready. SOUND: a.) Music – Noneb.) Sound Effects – Sounds of hangers on rail in wardrobeShot 5 – Int./Day190501805940This begins as a simple over the shoulder shot which shows Katie as she finishes getting ready for work, putting her blazer on, putting shoes on, grabbing her bag/files; it shows that she looks smart which could mean she is likely to have a good job. We can also see that her mood has not changed as she doesn’t look happy as we can see from her expression and the dull effect continues. It is a tracking shot as from the frame below it follows Katie as she collects various objects/gets ready.DURATION: This shot again lasts approximately 5 seconds – the camera is simply focused on Katie and the items she was collecting.EDITS: DISSOLVE – From shot 4 there would be a gradual transition to introduce shot 5SOUND: a.) Music – Noneb.) Sound Effects – Shoes clicking on wooden flooring as Katie walks around260352137410Shot 6 – Int./DayThis shot is a close up shot of Katie finally completely ready for work, sat down already looking through files and drinking a cup of tea; she flicks through pages and drinks her drink and then picks up her belongings and exits the kitchen she is sat in. Her mood has still not brightened and the lighting in this shot remains dark, we see the objects she collected in the last shot on the counter in the space next to her. This asymmetrical shot again creates negative space, communicating her mood.DURATION: This shot again lasts approximately 14 seconds – the camera is simply focused on Katie in a fixed position until she leaves the room.EDITS: DISSOLVE – We see a gradual transition between shots 5 and 6SOUND: a.) Music – Noneb.) Sound Effects – Pages being turned, ‘Slurping’, Door slammingShot 7 – Ext./Day2324101193165This shot shows Katie picking up her keys leaving the house, locking the door behind her as she leaves. This is a long shot as it allows us to see the building and therefore discover that she is a solicitor and Katie still remains in the shot. In this shot, we see drive up and park the car and then we see her climbing out of her car and struggling with all of her belongings as she walks towards the door and goes inside. The camera is fixed in the position of the frame above for this shot, so we do not see Katie’s movements closer or specifically follow her throughout this shot, we merely see her from a distance. Then when she is inside, the shot remains showing the building for approximately 4 seconds.71755189865DURATION: This shot again lasts approximately 14 secondsEDITS: CUT – In the previous shot, we would see her driving away and in this shot we would hear the car in the distance driving towards the building – the cut is masked.SOUND: a.) It is a tracking shot so the camera follows them as they walk further and further down the path.171450376555DURATION: This shot again lasts approximately 6 seconds – the camera remains over the shoulder of this figure.EDITS: CUT – There would be an immediate change from shot 13 to the current shot – we see her leave the pub and then cut to the pathSOUND: a.) The frame of the man being upside down and the blurry view shows how disorientated she is.DURATION: This shot again lasts approximately 10 secondsEDITS: FADE IN – This shot would fade in from black to show she is just regaining consciousness. The blurring effect would wear out as she begins to sit up canted angles could be used to emphasize her disorientation+SOUND: a.) Music – Noneb.) In the frame below we see him from behind steadying her and helping her to walk at a slow pace. She doesn’t speak to him in this as she is still slightly disorientated, this shot ends when they have exited the path. The camera is fixed to the point in the frame below, so once they go into the distance and out of sight the shot cuts.DURATION: This shot again lasts approximately 8 secondsEDITS: DISSOLVE – There would be a gradual transition between shots 17 and 18SOUND: a.)
