8. OUTCOMES: What results can be reported for the grant? If a survey was used, please summarize the results to date. Please discuss the impact the project has had so far on the library, the individuals served, and the community. This includes changes in behavior, skills, knowledge, attitudes, etc.
The majority of participants felt they had an increase in knowledge and confidence in using resources and strategies for cultural diversity as a result of participating in the program.
Library staff who attended the trainings felt they learned new skills to improve their customer service skills in working with a diverse population.
9. IMPORTANCE OF FINDINGS: Briefly summarize the importance of the outputs, outcomes, and/or other reported results for future program planning?
Having staff trained in diversity awareness has helped improve patron satisfaction of programs offered at the library, resulting in a heightened perception of the library as a community anchor. It is critical to implement the skills and knowledge gained into other services provided by the library as well.
10. LESSONS LEARNED: Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any part of this project.
Building a culture begins and ends with building strong management. Managers and assistant managers need additional training and skill development tools to proactively create diversity programs and address diversity questions from patrons as they arise.
14. EFFORT LEVEL: Does the library anticipate any changes in level of effort in managing this project following the end of the grant period?
Yes; we plan to increase our efforts to provide more programming on diversity using the skills taught in the workshops.
15. PROJECT SCOPE: Does the library anticipate changing the types of activities and objectives addressed by the project following the end of the grant period?
Yes. During fall of 2019, we will use the skills taught in the trainings to expand our programs to include a Generational Diversity class open to local business owners, where participants will learn about the difference between employees from various generations.
