Nova Scotia Association for Community Living in partnership with the Disabled Persons Commission and People First Nova Scotia is presenting a one day workshop on deinstitutionalization of persons with a disability.

MORNING PRESENTATIONS:

John Lord

John has been a leader in researching, writing, and speaking about the new paradigm of community and disability.  For decades, his mission has been to use research and education to create positive change in human services and communities, so that vulnerable citizens can achieve full citizenship, participation, and equality.

Don Gallant

Don is a consultant to Canadian Association for Community Living and will speak of his experiences as a senior government official in Newfoundland at the time of institutional closures. He will focus on the partnerships formed by the government, families, self advocates and associations for community living to bring about the closure of institutions.

Panel Presentation

Self advocates will talk about their experiences living in an institution

Lunch will be provided

AFTERNOON: John Lord will facilitate an Action Plan towards steps that can be taken by each and every person in attendance.

There is no cost for the day but pre-registration is requested as space is limited and must be received before October 8, 2007. You may register for the morning only or for both morning and afternoon sessions.
