INTRODUCTORY NOTES

Page |3

B ¨C INDEX STRUCTURE

?

References to entries in the index consist of the CP TRACKS issue designation in bold

characters and as given on page 1 or 2 of these introductory notes followed by the issue¡¯s

page(s) or page range in bold characters; if an entry page or range of pages has a specific

content, it bears one or more of the superscripts given and explained at length in the footer of

each page of the index.

?

Italics in the index are used for the titles of books, periodicals, card sets, leaflets, video tapes,

and DVDs; they are also used for the names of named trains, locomotives, passenger,

business, and private cars, and ships and airplanes.

?

Dates in the index are given in the Month/Day/Year format.

?

Articles¡¯ titles and entries are given under their author(s) name(s).

?

Individual CP diesel locomotives are indexed thus in three different lists under the DIESEL

LOCOMOTIVES, CP¡¯s listing:

a) list of builders¡¯ models given under the builders¡¯ names stated in alphabetical order

b) list of class designations given in alphabetical order

c) list of road numbers (RN) given in numerical order.

?

Individual CP steam locomotives are indexed thus in two different lists under the STEAM

LOCOMOTIVES, CP¡¯s listing:

a) list of class designations given in alphabetical order

b) list of road numbers (RN) given in numerical order.

?

The fastest way to find all the entries on a specific CP locomotive is to look it up in its CP listing

of road numbers. For a locomotive of a CP subsidiary company, it is to go to the latter¡¯s entry

listing.

?

When the road number of a specific locomotive is given a suffix such as :1, :2, and so on, the

suffix indicates the number of times that particular RN has been used and it is given to properly

identify the locomotive in the photograph(s) the index entry refers to. In some cases, the

locomotive¡¯s various road numbers are given in descending chronological order or, if the

locomotive is being preserved, in the entry of the location where this was being done at the

time of its mention in CP TRACKS.

?

Rolling stock items are indexed in their respective listing of road numbers; road number

changes follow the procedure used for locomotives.

?

The mention ¡°preserved¡± follows the road number of a locomotive or rolling stock item in

preservation; all entries for these can be found by referring to the location given.
