COMMENTS FROM THE DIRECTOR

We had a really great December meeting and party! The hospitality of Bob and Sandy Buntaine was outstanding! It was a great day to enjoy meeting and visiting with other chapter members as we revisited the buildings containing many of Bob’s “treasures” (cars and other things).

We also enjoyed a great buffet meal, followed by a lively chapter meeting. At that meeting, it was proven that you can be elected to an office as you might sit in the meeting and not be really paying attention . . . until it’s too late. I’ll allow this person to remain “nameless”, although those in attendance know who the particular chapter member is. After this particular situation was over, we proceeded with the chapter officer election motion, which passed unanimously.

Our first meeting of the New Year 2008 will be at a familiar “old friend”, Bodacious BBQ in Arlington. This was our somewhat regular meeting venue for many years and is still nice to return to every so often. At this meeting, we’ll better define what our future activities and meeting places will be for the coming year. Please be there to offer your input and thoughts on this situation!

February will be a little different for us this year. For many years we combined our February meeting with our annual Valentine’s Day Buick Show at the Love Field Antique Mall. Sometimes, it was not that close to Valentine’s Day, but we had it anyway. It was always a fun show to do and enjoy, but that’s now a memory as the Antique Mall closed earlier in 2007. Although there’s now a gap in February, we can now explore other possibilities for meeting places and activities for that particular month.

In March, the Alamo Chapter will be hosting a Buick Club of America Board of Director’s Meeting. See the separate article for more details. As we have two BCA Board Members from Texas AND our BCA South Central Region, our Alamo Chapter associates have requested that as many of us who can attend, do attend. The activities they have planned for the attendees (BCA Board Members and other interested BCA members) looks like they will be highly enjoyable. Please make your plans NOW!

April will see the 2008 Edition of the annual Buicks and Bluebonnets Tour return to the Stagecoach Inn in historic Salado, TX. This event is an always enjoyable event put on by our Lone Star Chapter associates from the Houston, TX area. As there was last year, there is a possibility that a “Tune-Up Day” might be held at Scott Aurandt’s building in Mineral Wells. Stay tuned for more details as they develop!

I need to mention that although we have significant activities in March and April, we will still have our regular monthly chapter meetings. The monthly meetings will be on different weekends so they will NOT interfere with the out-of-town activities—you can do BOTH each month, hopefully.

We had a great Year 2007 and we hope everybody has an even better New Year 2008! Please be at this month’s chapter meeting to offer input on what you’d like to see us do and accomplish in 2008!

MINUTES OF THE DECEMBER 8, 2007 MEETING

The North Texas Chapter, BCA had our Christmas Party at the home of Bob and Sandra Buntaine in Alvarado, Texas at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, December 8, 2007. The party was hosted by the Buntaines with wonderful hospitality, delicious food, and a tour of their fascinating home and Bob’s shop and storage buildings. There was an electric train running on elevated tracks around the inside of the house, room to room. Lots of fun times and fun toys, here. “Thank You”, Bob and Sandy, for the fantastic party.

The meeting was called to order at 3:05pm by Director Willis Bell. There were 38 people in attendance, including a few guests.

Willis thanked the Buntaines for their gracious hospitality and wonderful food, in addition to those who brought covered dishes for the meal.

Willis reminded us of the BCA National Board Meeting to be held in San Antonio in March (14th-16th). The Alamo Chapter would like to have as many North Texas Chapter members, as well as all other Texas chapter members, as possible at the meeting. Watch for further details for time, date, and arrangements.

Willis also mentioned the Lone Star Chapter’s Buicks and Bluebonnets event in Salado in April. More details to follow.

Andy Walla mentioned that a photographer who was at the recent BCA National Meet is coming to Texas (soon) for photo opportunities. It is possible he could be at Salado.

Robert Kam sent invitations to his annual Christmas Party at his historic home. The event is scheduled for December 22nd at 7:30pm. Everyone is invited. Several members mentioned attending in the past.

Ed Logan invited everyone to the Tyler Street Methodist Church Christmas Program.

The December issue of THE BUGLE was passed around. It features Dale Sherman’s 1962 Buick Skylark.

Robert Reed Obenour announced the revised chapter membership roster (51 – 5 + 11) and gave us a report on the progress of our 6 Month Complimentary Chapter Membership program for new BCA members in our area. It was motioned, seconded, and passed to continue this program.

After discussion of the Chapter Officer Elections, it was motioned, seconded, and passed to retain the present slate of officers for the next year 2008 (for those who agreed to continue). The results:

Chapter Director Willis Bell Assistant Director Ed Logan

Secretary Jimmie Furr Treasurer Thelma Lough

Membership Director Robert Reed Obenour Activities Director Roy Campbell

Activities Director Roy Campbell announced the January Meeting will be at Bodacious BBQ in Arlington, 2:00pm, January 12, 2008. There was also discussion of the scheduling of future meeting locations in 2008. Wine Styles in Rockwall and other locations were mentioned.

Scotty Aurandt asked if we wanted to have a “Tune-Up Day” at his shop in Mineral Wells, before Salado.

Thelma gave a Treasurer’s Report. Thelma also reminded everyone that Chapter Dues for 2008 are now due.

Sandra Buntaine thanked everyone for being there and presented everybody with a red Poinsettia plant to take home.
