While we do raise funds to support our funded partners we are much more than just a fundraiser. United Way of Southwest Oklahoma (UWSWOK) links nonprofit organizations, businesses, community, social services, and the public together to work for the common good of Southwest Oklahoma. Through our many partnerships (funded and community partners) and collaborative initiatives we are able to help our community create, promote, and execute tangible solutions that can solve the critical issues of Education, Income Stability, Health, and Basic Needs. UWSWOK is dedicated to continue identifying ways in which our community can become a better place to live and work. In order to do that, we rely on the generosity of our community members. -10160074930HOW IS THE COMMUNITY AFFECTED BY WHAT UWSWOK DOES? 00HOW IS THE COMMUNITY AFFECTED BY WHAT UWSWOK DOES? In 2017, donors helped invest over $983,614 in our funded partners to continue, stabilize, and expand the great work that they already do for our area. A total of 6 education programs, 5 income stability programs, 7 health programs, and 7 basic needs programs received much needed funding to help meet the needs of over 115,994 community members. Without the programs offered by our funded partners, community partners, and collaborative initiatives, many of our citizens would have no one to turn to in their time of need. CIC volunteers review applications, visit programs, ask questions, and review budgets annually to assure that every dollar is spent in the most efficient manner. This comprehensive review of programs ensures care is available from many sources for an individual or family in need. Why should I give to UWSWOK instead of giving directly to an organization? There are several reasons why supporting UWSWOK is the best way to help the most people in our community. 1). By investing in UWSWOK, you help provide solutions to the most critical human care needs of our community. You don’t have to choose which needs are most important, UWSWOK addresses them all. 2). Community volunteers carefully review each UWSWOK funded partner on an annual basis. Their oversight ensures funded partners adhere to sound fiscal policies and that your contribution is invested in programs that do the most good. 3). Giving through UWSWOK reduces costly and time-consuming fundraising efforts for the organizations providing programs. This enables them to better spend their time helping people who really need help. 4). When you give through your workplace campaign, your gift can be spread out over the course of a year through payroll deduction, making it easier for you to support the social service needs of our community. Why don’t all nonprofit organizations belong to UWSWOK?Some nonprofit organizations choose to not be part of UWSWOK because of our stringent admissions criteria. Some are not part of UWSWOK because their objectives are national in scope and cannot be altered by local decisions. To obtain funded partner status, a nonprofit organization must comply with UWSWOK high standards of service and accountability. Determining the funded partners that will receive money is a local decision made by dozens of volunteers and governed by local needs and values. 89 ................
