Predictive Services Discussion: Critical fire weather conditions will shift to the southern half of Texas today, with lingering dry and breezy conditions expected into southern New Mexico. Elevated fire weather conditions are likely from the Florida Peninsula stretching north through the southern and central Appalachians and eastern Ohio Valley amid southerly winds of 15-30 mph and minimum RH of 25-45%. Dry conditions will continue across much of the Northeast as well.

Severe thunderstorms, with the potential for heavy rain and flooding, will develop from the Lower Mississippi Valley and central Gulf Coast northward through the Ohio Valley and extending to the western slopes of the Appalachians overnight. Snow will fall across portions of the Upper Midwest and western Great Lakes as well. Lingering rain and snow showers are expected across the southern Rockies and portions of the southern High Plains, with precipitation in western Washington, northwest Oregon, and portions of the northern Rockies. Scattered precipitation will accompany a cold front moving across the northern and eastern portions of the Great Basin late today into tonight.
