The Personal Narrative – Mr

The Personal Narrative – Mr. Schlicher

Your task is to write a personal essay that discusses how your character has been shaped by past and present experiences, and by your desires for the future.

Consider these questions as you write, incorporating those which have most affected you through your freshman year so far:

1. Who are you?

Think about your cultural background, places you have lived, how your culture has shaped your beliefs and values (those things important to you); strengths that you have and examples of those strengths that you have demonstrated; weaknesses and how they have hindered you in achieving goals; finally, the direction you are taking toward college or career aspirations.

2. Who are you at Lincoln High School?

How would you improve your academic achievement at Lincoln? What courses do you like? Dislike? Why? How do these likes and dislikes affect your choice of pathway or career aspirations? How are you involved in the school? Clubs? Sports? Volunteer activities? How would you like to become more involved?

3. Think about the word “quality” and what it means to you personally. How does your perception of the word affect your future? Any examples?

4. Character Traits

What do you think of these character traits? They are: responsibility, courage, citizenship, kindness, honesty, self-control, tolerance, respect, and cooperation. Identify two of these traits that you consider most important to you and, through example, demonstrate how you have used these traits in your own life.
