ORGANISATIONAL ARRANGEMENTS

This post is for 40 hours per week to provide support to the Onco-plastics service. The post would be suitable for a senior registrar with CCT or equivalent and FRCS (plast). The overall clinical workload will involve management of in patients, attendance at theatre and outpatient sessions and working closely with the clinical nurse specialists within the team.

JOB PURPOSE

The role will be responsible for:

• Postgraduate teaching supporting the University of Manchester Medical School. It is expected that the appointee will take equal responsibility for the educational supervision of surgical trainees and encourage trainees to be involved in postgraduate activities.

• Ability to take responsibility for clinical care of patients in a supervised basis

• Ability to audit and critically appraise clinical care delivery by a multidisciplinary team

The appointee will be based at The Christie and will provide senior input to all of the above.

The fundamental approach to treatment at the Christie is as part of a multidisciplinary team within tumour and disease groups. Close collaboration exists with the Departments of Medical Oncology (Divisional Director Dr Nick Slevin, Clinical Director Dr Mike Leahy, and Clinical Oncology Clinical Director Dr John Logue). In addition, clinical groups include endocrinology, paediatric and adolescent oncology, palliative care, genetics and psychological medicine.

The Christie has both diagnostic and interventional radiological services including ultrasound, radionuclide, CT, MR and PET scanning. Pathology services include histopathology, cytology, haematology and clinical chemistry

The Trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development (CPD) as laid down by the GMC and surgical colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.

Summary of Terms and Conditions of Employment

Post Title

Clinical Fellow (Locally Employed Doctor) in Plastic Surgery (Skin, Soft Tissue and Microsurgery)

National Terms and Conditions

This appointment is a Trust Grade appointment with local Terms and Conditions that fall outside of the National Terms and Conditions of Hospital Medical and Dental Staff.

Hours of Work

The role is contracted at 40 hours per week (full time). The hours of work will be outlined in your rota.

Salary

The salary is payable in line with NHS experience, non-NHS experience is at the discretion of the Trust upon request. The base salary currently ranges between £32,478 - £42,969 per annum (pro rata). Candidates at post-CCT / post-FRCR level will be considered up to £51,069 per annum (pro rata) dependent upon experience.

Tenure

This is a fixed term position for 6 to 12 months.

Professional Registration

You must have full registration with the General Medical Council and have a Licence to Practice.

On Call Commitment

This role does not currently have an agreed rota commitment.

Leave Entitlement

The Annual leave entitlement for this role is 27 days annual leave per annum pro rata (for F2/CMT Level) or 32 days annual leave per annum pro rata (ST3+ level). The study leave entitlement for this role is 30 days over a rolling three year period. There are also 8 public holidays each year pro rata if part time.

Essential Training

All doctors employed by the Christie are required to keep up to date with their essential training to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for training and to promote safe and effective practice within the organisation.

Flu Vaccination

All Trust staff must take part in the Trust’s annual flu vaccination programme and ensure they receive the influenza vaccination on an annual basis.

Appraisal and Revalidation

All doctors are required to participate in Appraisal and Revalidation, this is not only a contractual obligation, but is also a requirement of their registered body the GMC.

Appraisal is an opportunity to take stock of one’s professional activities and career and must be undertaken annually.

Revalidation is the process by which licensed doctors are required to demonstrate they meet the required standards and are fit to practise. The Responsible Officer, will make a revalidation recommendation to the GMC, usually once in a 5 year cycle. The doctor must ensure that all the evidence required, as outlined in Good Medical Practice is organised and sufficiently documented.

Successful candidates will be expected to connect to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust on GMC connect upon their first day in post. Details of who to contact in relation to Appraisal and Revalidation will be provided upon successful completion of all NHS pre-employment checks.

Allocate

From August 2017, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust implemented Allocate e-Rota for the purpose of exception reporting and monitoring throughout the Trust and to ensure on-going rota compliance. Notice Period

Where termination of employment is necessary, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust will give 8 weeks’ notice, in writing. Trust Grades are required to give The Christie NHS Foundation Trust 8 weeks’ written notice if they wish to terminate their employment.

In cases of gross misconduct, gross negligence, or where a doctor’s registration as a medical doctor (and/or their registration as a dental doctor) has been removed or has lapsed without good reason, employment may be terminated without notice.

RISK MANAGEMENT

It is a standard element of the role and responsibility of all staff of the Trust that they fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risk in all of their actions. This entails the risk assessment of all situations, the taking of appropriate actions and reporting of all incidents, near misses and hazards.
