Women In Distress is the only nationally accredited, state-certified, full service domestic violence center serving Broward County, Florida. Our mission is to stop domestic violence abuse for everyone through intervention, education and advocacy.

Job Title: Residential Family Advocate

Reports To: Residential Advocacy Supervisor

Salary: $16.00/hour

Days/Hours: T-TH 12:00pm-9:00pm, Saturdays- 9:00am-6:00pm, hours may vary depending on department/agency needs.

Workplace Location(s): Women In Distress’ Shelter and Outreach Family Center.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, social work, counseling or related field or three years of experience in social services.

2. Minimum of three years of experience working with children.

3. Computer literate.

4. years of experience in field of domestic violence preferred.

5. Valid Florida driver's license. Safe driving record. Proof of automobile liability insurance.

6. Bilingual Spanish Preferred.

General Job Description: The Residential Family Advocate will provide comprehensive case management and advocacy services to child survivors of domestic violence and their non-offending caregiver in the Women In Distress’ Emergency Shelter. Case management services will consist of advocacy, counseling, completing child assessments, reporting child abuse when appropriate, creating and reviewing safety plans, providing appropriate resources and referrals, and providing supportive services to the children and their caregiver. The Family Advocate will be familiar with community resources as a referral source for families in need of therapeutic, financial, legal, medical, educational, and employment assistance. The family advocate will be responsible for identifying, creating, and implement weekly and monthly family enrichment activities for the children and their families. The Family Advocate will work closely with the Children's Services Manager and Residential Manager to create efficient and engaging programs for children and their families. The Family Advocate will ensure that all services provided are empowerment-based and are consistent with Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence (FCADV) standards. The employee holding this position must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
