Selection Criteria: Local Scholarship: Selection is on the basis of academic merit, leadership, character, and the will of the recipient to help himself or herself prepare for a career as a useful and informed citizen. Can be used at UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Greensboro or NC State. You must gain admission to college attending before the final scholarship selection in April.

Amount: One half cost of undergraduate education, maximum for 2013-14 year is $11,700, Applicants must demonstrate financial need. Financial need is determined by the Brooks Foundation based on the information submitted on the FAFSA form.

Selection Criteria: This is for students interested in the teaching profession. The scholarship provides a wealth of experiences including early field experience, excursions and professional networking. A Student must have minimum eligibility requirements: SAT 1000 or equivalent and GPA 3.4.

CSS/FINANCIAL AID PROFILE

Certain Colleges require the PROFILE to be filed along with the FAFSA. Some of the North Carolina schools that required it for 2013-2014 included Davidson College, Duke University, Elon University, Lenoir-Rhyne University, NC A&T University, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Wake Forest University. There are also specific scholarships that require the PROFILE. Registrations for the PROFILE are accepted beginning October 1. Application can be found at . The PROFILE must be submitted online.

CRUMLEY ROBERTS FOUNDER’S SCHOLARSHIP

Selection Criteria: Crumley Roberts will award 3 high school seniors a scholarship based on academic merit and a 1000-word “Open Letter” to distracted drivers persuading them to stay focused on the road and stop using their phones while driving.

WATSON AND ODYSSEY SCHOLARSHIP

Selection Criteria: For students with documented financial need and strong academic achievement. Students will be given preference if they are the first members of their family to attend college, have achieved success despite hardship, will bring cultural diversity to the university, and/or exhibit excellent potential to benefit from the opportunities of an Elon education and the Watson and Odyssey Scholarship program. A financial aid package of additional scholarships, grants, and loans to meet the student’s full financial need is part of some of the scholarships. The FAFSA, CSS Profile, and Elon’s Aid Application should be submitted separately by February 10.

Selection Criteria: Local Scholarship: Students planning to attend Forsyth Tech can apply for many scholarships for various programs using one application. Criteria vary for different scholarships. Students need to apply to Forsyth Tech before submitting scholarship application. The student must write a 300-400 word paper about the Purple Heart, a resume of your school experience.

Student must also participate in and out of school activities, have leadership skills and career goals. The winner of the local chapter scholarship automatically becomes an eligible candidate for the LSSNC state-sponsored scholarship in the amount of $2,000 for first place and $1,000 for second place.

FORGIVALBE EDUCATION LOANS FOR SERVICE

The Forgivable Education Loans for Service (FELS) program provides funding for North Carolina students pursuing programs leading to careers in areas with critical need, such as nursing, teaching, allied health fields and medicine. Students who receive funds through this program must sign a promissory note agreeing to work in North Carolina after graduation in an approved position, one year for each academic year of funding received. Students who do not perform the required service must repay the loans in cash, with interest. Selection Criteria: Those eligible to apply for the scholarship shall be the child/children or legally adopted child/children or a child of a spouse by a prior marriage or dependent child as defined by the United States Armed Services of active duty United States military and National Guard, and military reservists who were federalized and die on active duty on or after September 11, 2001. Selection Criteria: All applicants will automatically be considered for University sponsored academic scholarships. (For fullest consideration apply by final deadline of January 10.) Admitted students and continuing Covenant Scholars who complete an application for financial aid are automatically considered for Covenant funding. WINSTON-SALEM FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Selection Criteria: Includes Many Local Scholarships: All West Forsyth seniors who plan to continue their education after graduation should consider completing an online application for various scholarships through the Winston-Salem Foundation. The Winston-Salem Foundation is a tax-exempt organization that has over 100 scholarship funds from which loans, scholarships and grants are made for post high school education. Some awards are need-based and some are merit-based. Criteria may include level of income, academic performance, and community/school service. Other criteria may also be factors in the decision-making process; for example, specific colleges, various majors, etc. A number of scholarships are for Forsyth County seniors. Many applications have a deadline of April 15, 2014. Most scholarships require a GPA of at least 2.0. After a student completes the general application, they will be notified of specific scholarships for which they may be eligible.
