What is PRICE?
P – Protect Protect injured area from further harm by stopping play
R – Rest Injured area kept as still as possible with no weight on it
I – Ice Apply ice wrapped in a clean cloth
C – Compression Lightly wrap the injured area in bandage to stop losing blood
E – Elevation Raise it to a level above the heart to stem blow flow
What is DRABC?
D - Danger To casualty or first aider
R – Response Different levels of casualty response – alert / unresponsive / pain
A - Airway Is there a blockage
B - Breathing Listening and feeling if the casualty is breathing
C - Circulation pulse
What is the RECOVERY POSITION?
• Roll the casualty onto their side as shown. Gently tilt their head back to open their airway.
• Monitor the casualty until emergency help arrives.
Purpose:
• It keeps the casualty in a stable position with their airway
• It prevents the casualty's tongue from blocking their airway
• It promotes drainage of fluids, such as blood or vomit, from their mouth
• It keeps the casualty in a safe position if they have to be left alone
• If the casualty was left on their back their tongue could relax and block their airway
What is the difference in OPEN AND CLOSED FRACTURES?
• Open – Skin is broken, probable bleeding
• Closed – Skin unbroken
