Workshop Goals

The goals of this two-day program are to:

( Increase participant knowledge of TB nurse case management

( Improve and expand upon existing TB case management skills

Objectives

As a result of this two-day program, participants will be able to:

( Name at least two goals/principles of case management

( List the eight elements of TB case management, and least two activities that may be a part of each

( Describe significant aspects of their cultural identity, and compare this awareness to the experiences of patients representing diverse populations

( Define culture, ethnicity, and cultural competence

( Name at least three factors or variables that shape a person’s culture

( Identify at least three ways in which cultural and social factors influence TB diagnosis, treatment, and case management

( List at least three guidelines for working with someone of a different cultural background

( Demonstrate and model at least two methods of non-verbal communication

( Define open and closed questions, and provide an example of each

( Apply the information and skills discussed during the morning session to a simulated patient role-play scenario

( Provide at least two examples of maintaining appropriate and two of maintaining inappropriate personal boundaries with patients

( Define patient adherence and describe at least three potential barriers to adherence to treatment plans

( Name at least three obstacles to providing effective TB case management in a clinic setting, and at least one strategy for overcoming each
