Position Summary: Receives and disburses money using electronic scanner and cash register. Processes credit & debit card transactions & validates checks.

Essential Functions:

• Receives payment by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits.

• Issues receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.

• Counts money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change.

• Greets customers entering establishment.

• Establishes or identifies prices of goods, services or admission, and tabulates bills using calculators, cash registers, or optical price scanners.

• Calculates total payments received during shift; reconciles this with total sales.

• Maintains an awareness of all product knowledge information, merchandise promotions, test merchandise and advertisements.

• Assists in processing and replenishing merchandise; participates in receiving and monitoring floor stock; ensures re-wraps are done promptly.

• Accurately and efficiently completes all sales transactions.

• Adheres to all Company policies, procedures and practices including signing, pricing, and loss prevention.

• Computes and records totals of transactions.

• Resolves customer complaints.

• Bags, boxes, wraps, or gift-wraps merchandise.

• Processes merchandise returns and exchanges.

• Answers customer questions and explains procedures or policies.

• Keeps periodic balance sheets of amounts and numbers of transactions.

• Maintains neat, orderly work area.

• Adheres to company attendance/tardy policies. Attendance is an essential function of this position.

Nonessential Functions:

• Assists with training new personnel as needed.

• Other duties as assigned by Sales Manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Displays a professional appearance and manner when interacting with management, coworkers, customers, vendors, and the general public.

• Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Ability to work well in a fast-paced, demanding environment.

• Ability to respond to customer complaints and questions in a pleasant and helpful manner.

• Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.

• Ability to operate a computer and general office equipment.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Windows/Office and ability to learn and use various software programs.

Education and Training:

• Requires knowledge typically acquired through high school diploma or GED.

• Prior customer service or sales experience preferred.

Special Position Requirements:

• Work hours may vary as business needs dictate.

• Occasional work may be required on weekends, evenings, or holidays.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

The position requires extended periods of standing. Requires ability to communicate clearly & effectively with others in-person and on telephone. Manual dexterity needed for using cash register and calculator. Requires frequent bending & reaching. Must have adequate vision to operate cash register and complete paperwork. May require occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. Must be able and willing to work flexible hours to meet client and organization needs.
