Why I Chose Computer Science As A Major

I chose Computer Science as my Major because computers are the future and I enjoy working with computers and creating basic programs. I chose Computer Science as a Major because computers will lead the way of the future. They are the biggest news today and will be for years to come. Computers can be found almost anywhere around the world. They have become widespread and interface with almost every aspect of life. With this, a comprehensive demand for Computer specialists will exist. I will be able to assist in helping to meet the needs of the people developing software programs that can be used by various industries. I enjoy working with computers and writing basic computer programs. While I was in high school, I was given the opportunity to take an introductory course in creating basic programs at a Community College. Upon taking this class, I became very excited about learning the basic computer language. I began writing small programs on my computer. My best program was a cash register program that calculated the amount owed and the necessary change that needed to be given back. The field of Computer Science offers me a lucrative career. Computer Science Specialists can earn high salaries. Their salary ranges between $30,000 and $60,000+ per year depending on location, job position, and education. Upon gaining some years of experience and earning a Master’s Degree, I will have the capability and qualification to excel in key positions and negotiate for higher salaries. This places the computer Science field in a category of being one of the highest paying careers around the world. These are some of my reasons for choosing Computer Science as my Major. Computers are the way of the future because they interface with almost every aspect of life. I enjoy working with computers and creating basic programs. I feel it is challenging and interesting. Computer Science Specialists can earn very high salaries and enjoy job security.

On ECSU’s campus, I plan to enhance my knowledge of creating Web pages and electronic presentations, using word processor and database management, and navigating the World Wide Web. While accomplishing these goals, I plan to gain more experience with group activities and cooperative learning. In the group activities, I will be able to communicate with group members to compose a strategy to complete our project.

I chose Physics as a minor because I am interested in the natural world phenomena. The concept of wave and motion involving light and sound was especially exciting to me in High School. I am hoping that my Major in Computer Science with a Minor in Physics will allow me to see the correlation between the two. Also, I would like to learn skills and techniques that will enable me to one day design a program that will help solve some of these problems the world may have.

I plan to apply for Extramural Internship during my years in college. The experiences I hope to gain in Computer Science will help equip me for a job with the real world. I plan to seek an internship with a large company or organization, which will allow me the opportunity to utilize the skills I have learned in college as well as learn new and useful skills. This company or organization will also give me the opportunity to work competitively with other Computer Specialists in the workplace. It is my plan to apply for an internship with various companies and organizations in order to broaden my knowledge.

After graduating from ECSU, I plan to continue my education and obtain my Master’s Degree. I, then, will step out into the world of employment and begin working in my profession. My plan is to work with a progressive company that is interested in allowing a person to explore new ideas. After several years, I will return back to Graduate School to obtain my Doctoral Degree. It is my utmost goal to develop a program that will revolutionize man’s venture in traveling. I will, finally, retire from the corporate world and possibly work in the computer field as an instructor in a university setting.
