The job of a cashier is one of the most important and responsible job in a bank or any other business. The main function or the responsibility of a cashier is to accept the currency and other different form of payments, give change, record purchased items and produce receipts. The most important part of the job of a cashier is to find the most effective method for completing a transaction.

Duties and Responsibilities

There are the following duties and responsibilities of a cashier which are expected to be fulfilled:

• The cashier has the responsibility to collect the fees for permits or licenses issued or documents field.

• He or she has to assign the time during the license tests.

• It will be the responsibility to handle the overall routine issuance of tickets, licenses, receipts etc.

• It will be the duty to properly maintain the pending application files and the related records according to the directions.

• He or she has to prepare the simple statistical reports and register the fee entries and changes as well.

• He or she also has to perform some particular clerical work regarding to cash and financial transactions when needed.

Skills and Specifications

The required skills and specifications are as follows:

The person must have the required knowledge of the handling, depositing and recording of money.

• The person needs to have an excellent knowledge of the modern office practices, equipment and terminology regarding to cashiering and reports.

• He or she should be very good at keeping the records properly.

• The person must have the mathematical skills and efficient in simple record keeping.

• He or she should be very efficient to perform rapid change with accuracy.

• He or she should be able to deal with public with courtesy and tact.

• The person needs to have the ability carry on routine and repetitious work accurately.

• The person must have the ability to carry out written and oral instructions properly.

• The person needs to be very honest and reliable to be a cashier.

• He or she must be hard working and willing to work within a flexible schedule ands set deadlines.

Education and Qualifications

• The basic degree required to be a cashier is a graduation from a high school or an equivalent high school diploma with good skills in arithmetic.
