Line Drawings

Text board

• When deciding on a students level, don’t assume you must always start with the basic objects. This is an important part of the evaluation. A goal would be to move them further down the hierarchy. Line drawings are usually more accessible and easer to carry than objects.

• When creating boards and schedules that require Velcro remember to be consistent with the placement of the Velcro

o Hard or male Velcro goes on the card or object

o Soft or female goes on the board or schedule

• Make back up boards for devices. Things break and we would never want a student to be without communication

• Store symbols in binders using diskette files, baggies or easily accessible file folders.

• Keep a back up of your boards on a disk, CD or flash drive. If your computer crashes all your hard work will be saved.

Switches And Toys

Children who are physically impaired can use the switches with toys and/or software to learn the concept of cause and effect to then expand to choice making and communication.
