SAN ANTONIO - (July 26, 2018): Hope for the Future, a non-profit through the Archdiocese of San Antonio, recently awarded 2,040 students tuition assistance of more than $2.3 million for the chance to attend a San Antonio area Catholic school. The average award for high school students was $1,000, while elementary students were awarded an average of $750. Since Hope for the Future began in 2006, the organization has awarded more than $22 million in tuition assistance to 16,000 students. Hope for the Future’s goal is to fund every deserving child whose family seeks a faith-filled and academically rigorous education at a San Antonio Catholic school. The non-profit began when community leaders realized a critical need among financially disadvantaged families throughout San Antonio. Hope was created as a way to help children obtain the education and faith needed to break the cycle of poverty found in many neighborhoods. Hope for the Future is currently making the dream of a Catholic education a reality for thousands of families. Hope manages several development measures, including seeking grants and donations from alumni, corporations and individuals, as well as generous foundations.“Our Catholic schools provide a well-rounded, rigorous education with 21st century skills, and a strong faith foundation for the children of San Antonio and the surrounding areas. We are proud to be able to help more than two thousand families obtain their dreams of a Catholic education this upcoming school year,” says Amy Hone, Executive Director of Hope for the Future. “We are grateful to all of our donors and supporters who have helped us reach our fundraising goals this past year, continuing our mission to assist so many of the children wishing to attend our 38 wonderful Catholic schools.”Hope also hosts their annual Run with a Mission 5K, which directly benefits Catholic schools,and their primary annual fundraiser, the Khaki & Plaid Gala. Khaki & Plaid invites participants to give back through ticket sales, auction items, donations and sponsorships. The 2017 Khaki & Plaid Gala – the Royal Ball featured Executive Chairs Diana Barrios-Trevino and Roland Trevino, and celebrity Honorary Chair from ABC’s hit show “Ugly Betty”, Tony Plana, and his wife, actress Ada Maris. Through their tuition assistance awards, Hope for the Future’s desire is for students to have the opportunity to grow and achieve lifelong success that can be measured by their career achievements and their presence in giving back to the community. The nine Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of San Antonio report rates of 100% graduation and 100% college acceptance for the 2017-18 school year.
