Listening Hearts are available: Grief the new normal – I feel so overwhelmed () _______________________________________08/12/20 2pm CT General Session: centering reflectionI look for ways to continue to volunteer. I want to continue to serve but looking at ways I can do this.I’m troubled that our full-time director who was very involved with many COVID patients was in a serious accident and is presently hospitalized and on a ventilator. Requesting prayers for him. This is very difficult for me. I am unable to assist at the hospital in Queens. How can I help, but the reality is their high COVD census I cannot be in that setting? I am providing phone support, but I am limited in what I can offer. There is a sense of helplessness is hard. It is a common theme on these sessions. Is anyone else dealing with this.We have a nurse whose whole family contracted COVID – her husband was seriously ill. She appreciated her prayers. Our hospital system is in financial difficulty and we’ve been requested to write to congressSometimes when someone recovers, there is a crowd that will cheer them out. But there are those who do not leave that way.We do make these new ritualsWhat has brought me joy? – a resident of 14 years developed a ministry at the center. He was discharged to an apartment. He saw this as his reward. It touched me. He was a volunteer leader with the Spiritual Care departmentWe are doing mass and prayers, we also celebrate the Assumption of Mary, we are doing a novena to Mary. We use a conference call video to pray together for peace and for the end of COVID.It’s wonderful that we can come together and pray, even with zoom or conference calls.Take a moment to see how you are. I’ve been through a lot with our community, I’ve dealt with a lot of death and dying, then I moved to care for our sisters. We had 5 sisters die and I could not support them. Our sisters are finally able to go to mass on one day a week. It’s amazing at the change because of this. They are eating communally again, though not close together. Its always iffy if someone becomes affected.Important reflections of the grace and fruitfulness of being able to return to mass. We have mass on the grass at my parish. The other part is the sadness of those who died alone. There is the grief and loss of their passing and remembering them.I am in independent living but was not able to go to our motherhouse. We did have chapter; we were able to spread out and also some on ZOOM. I do pray no one got sick. We did get the job done; we were connected.I am a Hospice chaplain on furlough. Had a chance to return to work, someone was concerned about my bringing the virus back to the convent, so I was able to get a job in the office ministering on the phone next week.I reflect on my work in Oncology in Children’s. The children show joy and resilience. After praying with mom, the child was laughing, showing joy. It helps me realize that my sufferings are tiny compared to the children and families I minster to. It gives me a different perspective. And I’m also grateful to be here. I am the only Catholic in my dept, so I have started Eucharistic ministry. Let’s hold-up our concerns and our hearts in prayer ................
