1. Identify the Cause/Effect structure or the organization method the writer used. Does the writer follow up his/her topic throughout the paper? (Remember, the writer is to establish the C/E relationship – check to see whether that goal is accomplished.)

2. Is there an intriguing opening? The introduction should also express the importance of the audience’s understanding the topic. Is this topic interesting to the reader? Why or why not? Is the conclusion well-developed? Why or why not?

3. Does a reasonable and logical cause/effect relationship appear evident? (Does the relationship make sense? Why or why not? Is there a piece of the causal chain missing?)

4. Is the writer’s process of change clearly discussed? Is there ever a time you, as the reader becomes confused or is asking questions of the writer’s thinking? Please note those areas carefully for the writer.

5. Is there evidence, support, or examples offered that correctly establishes the c/e relationship? List them briefly.

6. Does the paper meet the written minimum requirement? (Remember, the Works Cited page does not count as one of the written pages). If not, make recommendations for expanding the ideas or examples presented in order to meet the requirement.

7. Are there instances of Do Not Use List items or other grammatical issues? Please note as many as you find on the rough draft. (Do not take your time rewording or rearranging for the writer – it is the writer’s decision to make the recommended changes.)

8. Remember to go over your thoughts and recommendations with the author of the paper once you have completed this peer review. Afterwards, describe what made the meeting successful? What were the shortcomings?
