Putting the Day to Rest - Dublin Counselling Service

Putting the Day to Rest

• Do this at the same time every evening with a pen and paper (not on a laptop)

• Reflect on the events of the day and how you feel about what kind of day it has been

• Write down the main points. What you feel is good about them and what troubles you

• Write a ‘To Do’ list for any unfinished business

• Think about tomorrow – what you are looking forward to and what may cause worry

• Write down your schedule in your diary

• Write anything you are unsure about and make a note in your diary of a time in the morning when you are going to find out about it

• At bedtime if any of these come to mind remind yourself that you have already dealt with them

• If new thoughts arise when in bed, note them down on a piece of paper at your bedside to be dealt with the following day
