CCAM Certification Requirements & Application Guidelines

REQUIREMENTS FOR CCAM CERTIFICATION

1. Be a high school graduate or its equivalent, and be at least 18 years of age.

2. Be employed as a community association manager for the six months immediately preceding the application date, as evidenced by the experience report on the application.

Please note: "Employed" is defined as an applicant who is paid by an association or association management company.

3. All applicants (whether full service management or financial only management) must meet the following educational requirements for the CCAM certification program:

a. CMM101-CMM102 The Basics of Association Management (BAM) Series This two-day series represents 16 hours of general community management education designed to give you a comprehensive overview of the industry and the ever-present role of a community manager. Learn more about this series at .

If you have two or more current years of verifiable community management experience, you may qualify to take the BAM Series by correspondence. Verification of experience is required.

b. CMM121-CMM124 California Law Series This four-course series includes 16 hours of instruction on the laws you must know and apply when managing or servicing community associations. Module topics include: Principles of California Law, Financial Management, Community Management, and Meetings and Records. Learn more about this series at .

If you have two or more current years of verifiable community management experience, you may qualify to take the California Law Series by correspondence. Verification of experience is required.

c. CMM130 Ethics for Community Managers During this four-hour course, you will explore a variety of scenarios that demonstrate the official rules of conduct for community managers, including a review of CACM's Code of Professional Ethics and Standards of Practice. Learn more about this course at .

The above courses meet the statutory standards required by Business & Professions Code ?? 11500-11506. A CCAM applicant must successfully complete these courses, which includes achieving a passing score on each course examination of at least 70%. Each course expires three years from the date it was successfully completed.

Completion of the above coursework does not constitute automatic CCAM certification. The CCAM Application and required supplemental information, as outlined below, must be completed and submitted for approval.

HOW TO APPLY FOR CCAM CERTIFICATION

Once you have decided to pursue the CCAM designation, familiarize yourself with the CCAM Application, available at .

This application can be completed and/or submitted either prior to, during, or after completion of the required courses. However, please note that the application and the three letters of recommendation expire six months from the date of completion.

In order to complete the CCAM application process, you will need to:

1. Complete and sign the CCAM Application, verifying the information provided is accurate. Your employer or supervisor must also sign the application verifying the information is correct (see page 2 or 3 of the application).

2. Sign and include the signature page only of the CACM Code of Professional Ethics and Standards of Practice with your completed application.

3. Complete the CCAM Certification Fees Form found at the end of the CCAM Application. Submit this form with your application, along with the applicable fees below:

4. Request three recommendations by sending the Confidential Recommendation form to one person from each of the following categories:

a. An association board member, b. A CCAM in good standing or your employer, and c. A professional service provider you work with regularly (i.e., attorney, insurance agent, landscape professional,

etc.).

PLEASE NOTE: Instructions on the recommendation form must be strictly followed.

Recommendation forms are confidential and should not be seen by the applicant at any time. Recommendation forms that are not mailed directly to CACM in a sealed envelope, with the person's signature over the seal, or letters submitted in any other format will not be accepted.

5. Once all other application and education requirements have been met, a Verification of Employment form will be sent directly to your employer.

NOTIFICATION OF CCAM APPLICATION & CERTIFICATION STATUS

After CACM has received your application, you will be notified with a status report that details any missing items that are required in order for your application to move on to the review process.

Once CACM has determined all program and application requirements have been met, you will receive an official notification congratulating you on earning the CCAM. You can start to list the CCAM designation after your name once you receive this official certification notice. In addition, you will receive a CCAM certificate in the mail that is ready to be framed and displayed.

Your CCAM certification is valid for three years, which means you will have three years from the date you were officially certified by CACM to complete the continuing education requirements for CCAM recertification. Learn more about CCAM recertification at .
