Studies have determined the ACT assesses content which correlates directly to the Nevada Academic Content Standards to prepare students for college or career by graduation. The ACT examination consists of subject area tests in English, mathematics, reading, science, and writing. The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) adopted a policy guaranteeing students whose results on the ACT meet specified college-ready benchmarks (e.g.,18 in English, 22 in mathematics) will be placed directly into credit-bearing courses instead of remedial courses in post-secondary education.Focus: 2024CCSD’s Five-Year Strategic Plan, Focus: 2024, uses ACT benchmarks as targets to support Student Success Priority Area 1: Decrease student proficiency gaps in English language arts, mathematics, and science. Additionally, CCSD is focused on graduating 90 percent of high school seniors college and career ready.LogisticsACT test administration is managed by ACT?. The ACT was selected by the Nevada State Board of Education as the Nevada College and Career Readiness (CCR) assessment. It is mandated by Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) 390.610 and offered free of charge to all Grade 11 students. There is no performance minimum as a graduation requirement. The ACT may be administered using paper/pencil or online. The ACT online is the same test as the paper version but presented in an online-delivery format. ACT will communicate directly with the school test coordinator (TC) about test administration activities. 2019-2020 Testing CalendarTESTING DATETESTGRADE LEVELFORMATFebruary 25, 2020March 10, 2020 (make-up)ACT with Writing11Paper/pencilFebruary 25-28, 2020 and March 2-6, 2020March 10-13, 2020 and March 16-20, 2020 (make-up)Paper/pencil with accommodationsFebruary 25-27, 2020 and March 3-5, 2020March 10-12, 2020 and March 17-19, 2020 (make-up)OnlineACT Test SectionsThe ACT with Writing includes four subject area tests plus a 40-minute writing test. Testing begins at 8:00 a.m. with a short break scheduled after the first two tests and another break before the writing test. Students will normally be dismissed at approximately 1:15 p.m. Following the science test, there will be a shorter, multiple- choice test covering one of the previous subject areas. This test is a trial run which helps develop future versions of the test. The results of this test will not be reflected on the student’s reported scores. The ACT writing test measures writing skills taught in high school English classes and in entry-level college composition courses. A student’s writing test score does not impact their ACT composite score or subject test scores. However, without a writing test score, no English language arts (ELA) score will be reported.Subject AreaNumber of QuestionsTime AllowedExtended TimeEnglish7545 minutes70 minutesMathematics6060 minutes90 minutesReading4035 minutes55 minutesScience4035 minutes55 minutesWriting1 prompt40 minutes60 minutesTest Integrity It is vital schools engage in sound test administration practices. In accordance with Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) 390.250 through 390.430, test security procedures must be understood and adhered to by all CCSD school personnel involved in the administration or handling of materials related to state assessments. Educators, parents, and other CCSD stakeholders depend on accurate data about student performance. Strict adherence to procedures protects the integrity of the state assessment program and ensures consistency in test administration, security of test materials, and the validity of scores. Failure to adhere to CCSD test security procedures may result in state-administered corrective action, including but not limited to, invalid scores and/or licensure sanctions. For more information, see the CCSD Plan for Test Administration and Test Security 2019-2020 at bit.ly/TSP_1920.Roles and ResponsibilitiesThe TC is the primary contact for ACT test administration on the school campus. This role is very important, as the TCs are responsible for managing enrollment, receiving materials, and organizing test administration. The TC is responsible for sharing these resources with additional staff who will be assisting with test administration, including site-based technicians (SBT), special education personnel, and licensed staff. Students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP), 504 plan, or limited English proficiency may need testing accommodations to do their best. Test coordinators should work with special education staff to identify students needing accommodations. ACT has designed accommodations to decrease barriers and increase access for all students. Students with accommodations and English learner (EL) supports approved by ACT will result in college reportable scores. Requests are submitted in the Test Accessibility and Accommodations System (TAA System). For more information review the Quick Start Guide for Requesting Accommodations and/or English Learner Supports. Non-college reportable (NCR) accommodations do not need ACT approval and scores will not be reported to third parties.
