|Maternity INTERNSHIP | | | |

|Upon successful completion of the orientation, staff nurse will assume a full time position working 7:00 p.m. -7:30 a.m. with rotation to 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 | |

|p.m., 37.5 hours per week, rotating weekends and holiday rotation. | |

|General Requirements: |

|To be accepted into the nurse internship program all candidates must: |

| |

|Be a licensed registered nurse with a minimum of one (1) year of recent acute care hospital experience. Recent is defined as in the past one (1) year. |

| |

|Be able to commit to and work full-time for the length of the internship program. |

| |

|C. Upon completion of the program, revert to their authorized hours until a position becomes open in the unit in which the candidate interned. |

| |

|Commit to flexibility in meeting scheduling requirements as part of the program in order to obtain optimal learning. This involves working all shifts. It is |

|understood and agreed that work schedules, once posted, are relied upon by the employee and will not be changed except when mutually agreed to by management and the |

|employee. The intern will not be scheduled more than two (2) different shifts in a payroll week unless mutually agreed upon by management and the affected employee. |

| |

|Management agrees not to float employees currently completing their internship for all areas. |

| |

|Make-up days will be provided as needed to insure full clinical program content. Classroom work is mandatory and cannot be rescheduled. |

| |

|G. Successfully complete all the classroom and clinical components and demonstrate proficiency in expected skills. |

| |

|H. Meet unit level program expectations. |

| |

|I. Have current satisfactory performance evaluations, including attendance. |

| |

|J. Agree to and sign a Nursing Internship Work Agreement that outlines the expectations set forth in this Article. |

| |

|K. Candidates interested in the intern program may schedule a time to shadow staff in the areas prior to application for an internship. This time must be scheduled |

|with the prospective unit manager and be on the employee’s own time. |

| |

|L. The internship program is subject to the Job Posting Article except where specifically noted in this Article. |

| |

|M. An employee who has successfully completed an internship program may not apply for an additional internship program until five (5) years from the date of completion|

|of the internship program. |

|NURSING INTERNSHIP - MATERNITY |

| |

|A. The Maternity nursing internship program will be twelve (12) full-time weeks in duration and will commence at a date to be determined. |

| |

|B. The Unit will accept a maximum of one (1) nursing intern per year based on department job vacancies and the ability to offer the nursing intern a regular posted |

|position. |

| |

|D. During the course of the program, the nursing intern will be expected to rotate shifts and work weekends. |

| |

|E. Upon completion of the program, the nursing intern will remain in their new unit and revert to their authorized hours and shifts as stated in the job posting. All |

|job postings will include authorized hours and shifts. Upon completion of the program, the nursing intern assumes full department staff nurse responsibilities and |

|will be preferentially floated to Med/Surg. or CCU/ICU as needed if qualified. |

| |

|F. Upon completion of the program, the nursing intern assumes his/her licensed nurse hospital seniority. If there is a vacancy, the nurse within the Unit as |

|applicable, with the most licensed nurse hospital seniority will be offered the position in accordance with the Job Posting Article. |

| |

|If the intern does not successfully complete the internship program, he/she may choose between: |

|A position on the unit and shift where the greatest number of vacancies exist, retaining their previously authorized hours. |
