This program will assist students in recognizing, defining, and evaluating the competencies needed to acquire an Infant/Toddler or a Preschool Child Development Associate Credential.? This course uses observation of children, teachers and classroom environments for students to gain the fundamental skills and knowledge to be a competent caregiver for?infants and toddlers or preschool children.? It incorporates the family, societal trends, and the students own professionalism as a foundation for the student's competency in all of the CDA Standards.? Upon completion of this course the student will have all of the required skills, knowledge, and written documentation to apply for a CDA Credential (Infant/Toddler or Preschool). CDA RequirementsDescription:Be able to speak, read and write English well enough to fulfill the CDA credential requirementsNeed to be 18 years of age or olderHold a High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent or be currently enrolled in a high school career/ technical program480 hours of experience - the Candidate must have obtained 480 hours of experience working with young children in the appropriate setting in the last three years120-hours of education in 8 subject areas - any training or education taken by Candidates, at any point in their career, which falls within the required Eight Subject Areas- Planning a safe and healthy learning environment.- Advancing children's physical and intellectual development.- Supporting children's social and emotional development.- Building productive relationships with families.- Managing an effective program operation.- Maintaining a commitment to professionalism.- Observing and recording children's behavior.- Understanding principles of child development and pletion of TrainingThis training is offered on Saturdays from 9-2pm and Tuesdays from 6:00-10pm. It is expected that every hour spent in the classroom, there will be one hour of homework per week. Some home of this homework involves self-self and group work. The class will be held for 8weeks. As part of the training, you will complete some necessary documents to getting your CDA. This includes:The Resource PortfolioIncluding your Autobiography6 competency goals17 resource itemsCDA Professional Development Specialist CDA Professional Development Specialist will conduct an on-site Verification Visit, during which the Candidate will be assessed on his or her ability to demonstrate an understanding of the CDA Competency Standards and Functional AreasDuring the Verification Visit, the PD Specialist will:Review the contents of the Candidate's Professional Portfolio (formerly the Professional Resource File), training transcripts/certificates and Family Questionnaires.Observe the Candidate working with children, recording criterion evidence where applicable.Reflect with the Candidate, focusing on the Candidate's areas of strength or growth found in the Portfolio or seen during the Observation. For a detailed description of the Reflective Dialogue Process please see the Transition Guide.During the Visit, the Specialist will use the new Comprehensive Scoring Instrument to determine Recommended Scores in each of the thirteen Functional Areas, using a combination of both Portfolio evidence and observable criteria.Upon completion of the Verification Visit, the PD Specialist will then submit the Recommended Scores to the Council. These scores, along with the Exam score, will be combined by the Council into a final Cumulative Score which will determine the credentialing decision.The New CDA 2.0 ExamThe new CDA Exam has been designed by early childhood national experts and evaluation psychometricians to determine each Candidate's ability to put their knowledge into practice.Candidates applying for the Preschool or Family Child Care Credential will take the "CDA Exam: Children 0-5". The majority of questions test a Candidate's knowledge about how to effectively apply the CDA Competency Standards for 3-, 4-, and 5-year old children participating in group programs.Candidates applying for the Infant/Toddler Credential will take the "CDA Exam: Children 0-3". The majority of questions test a Candidate's knowledge about how to effectively apply the CDA Competency Standards in programs serving Infants and Toddlers.All Exams also include a few general questions that all teachers working with young children in group settings should know.The CDA Exam will have 65 multiple-choice questions. Five of the questions will have a photo and a short narrative, followed by a multiple-choice question about each scenario.The Candidate will have up to one hour and 45 minutes to complete the Exam. Please know that the recently-concluded Exam Pilot Test showed that 60 minutes was the average length of time it took for Candidates to complete the Exam.Post Training PreparationOnce you have completed the training, there is still much you must do to obtain the CDA credential. You must complete the following:Parent Questionnaires: distribute and then collected 75% of the parent questionnaires of the students in your class.480 hands-on Hours: be sure that you have the mandatory 480 hours of hands-on care in your setting at a licensed centerProfessional Portfolio: you should have completed your Resource Portfolio with an autobiography, six competency statements, and 17 resource items as part of the training.Petitioning by Completing Application and Sending Council in Washington, DCOnce you have completed all the steps up to this point, you will be ready to petition the Council on Professional Recognition in Washington, DC. The verification visit will happen in the three months following the deadline month. For example, if you send in your application around December, your verification visit will happen sometime in January, February, or March of the following year. When you are petitioning the council, you must sendCompleted applicationCertificate of Completion of CDA CoursePayment of $325.00Awarding of CDAYour CDA certification will arrive via the mail 1-3 months after your verification visit is completed. If the Council for Professional Recognition feels you are not adequately prepared, they will make recommendations on steps you can take to become better prepared and reapply for your CDA.I.N.S.P.I.R.E. Childcare Consultant Firm SyllabusOrganization-This is a lecture course in which topics are presented by the instructor, class work is explained, and assignments completed by students both during class periods and outside of class. Objectives and competencies are given once a week during schedule class, while students work on their professional portfolios. The course is a prerequisite for the beginning regular-program for a CDA courses. Students generally have had previous experience working with children in a childcare setting or family in-home setting.
