Assigned to a Region special crew. Employee in this class will be required to participate in work element system and may be trained to operate any piece of equipment used in a typical Region special crew. The major equipment used is listed in the following duties. This position requires considerable travel throughout a Region and will, on occasion, require overnight travel and overtime. Coordinates, coaches and oversees on-the-job work of other TWM's. Participates and acts as a trainer in the TMW program and serves as a trainer of equipment and methods. Operates heavy equipment and tools needed to perform highway, roadside and bridge maintenance. Operates traffic control devices for established work zones. Refer to instructions.Working long and odd hours, outside in all kinds of weather, working on roadway in high traffic areas, working with chemicals and the wearing of personal protective equipment. Must have ability to traverse rough ground and high structures. Manual labor involves lifting and carrying heavy tools and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds. Also requires bending, twisting and stooping many times a day and working at heights up to 66 feet. This position is responsible for leading TMW's in performing this maintenance utilizing necessary personnel, equipment and materials.26.What are the minimum education and experience qualifications needed to perform the essential functions of this position?EDUCATION:Education level typically acquired through completion of high school or equivalent.EXPERIENCE:TMW 9: Three years of experience equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker E8 with the required work elements.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Certified Pesticide applicator license (if applicable). Knowledge of highway traffic rules and regulations, signing and safety precautions to be observed. Knowledge and ability to operate motorized equipment with skill and in a safe manner. Mechanical aptitude needed to operate equipment efficiently and safely. Ability to make minor repairs to equipment, tools and vehicles used in maintenance work. Ability to read and understand written and oral instruction and communicate effectively.
