Term 1 Week 1

30 January 2018

Issue 1

Welcome back everyone!

Holidays are too much fun, and they have to end sometime! There's a busy term ahead so I hope everyone has had a relaxing Christmas. It's always great to catch up with family and friends - even though there are some times when we have our doubts!

Welcome to our new Kindergarten students Emily and Odette and their families. A big welcome also to the Tee boys, Javier (Year 3) and Lukas (Year 6) and their families.

Ms Rachel West will

be in later in the term

to undertake Mrs

Stevenson's maternity

leave.

Welcome

Rachel! Brad Bunyan our guitar and drum teacher will

not be attending this term, but will be back for Term

2. Brad's father is very ill and our thoughts go out to

the family as they reckon with Brad's dad's illness and

recovery. Students will continue with keyboard and

recorded music lessons on a Tuesday during Term 1.

Mrs Nolan will be back next Tuesday! Mrs Dean will also be away Term 1 due to family commitments in Melbourne. Pamela Cabot will not be in for garden sessions on Fridays as she has secured a job with Mid Coast Council in Forster. Congratulations Pamela, and all the very best!

The playground has undergone a change or two. The three large Liquid Amber trees in the schoolyard have

been removed after being declared dangerous because of falling limbs. Ability Tree Services did a wonderful job removing the trees! The equipment will be in full sun for a period of time, so this will be monitored as always. The couple of weeks we cannot get onto the equipment due to buzzing bees will not happen now!

The other significant addition is our NEW bell pole! A great big thanks to Dal Philips and Adam White. Dal was here for many hours pulling out the old pole and replacing it with the new. It was no small feat as the old pole and surrounding pavers were removed. The brand new pole will last for many years to come. The bell is looking very shiny and the whole work is a masterpiece! Bravo!

TERM 1 WEEK 1 2018

Let's recap the final week of Term 4....

Year 6 Farewell

Good luck Adam and John! We will miss you heaps, but Camden Haven High School is better for your being there. Thanks to everyone who made the Year 6 farewell such an enjoyable evening..... To Mrs Stevenson for the brightly decorated cake, hall decorations and music compilation, to Miss Craig for the superb slideshow, to parents and friends who got into the spirit of the 60's evening, to Karen and Ross from Hannam Vale Shop for a delicious dinner, and to the students for their wonderful participation. It was a very special evening! Love the photos!

Santa's Visit

It was exciting to have Santa spare us some time out of his busy schedule to visit! Well done students with the Secret Santa gifts, and THANK YOU SANTA!

Reward Day ? Stoney Aqua Park

An ACTION PACKED day if ever there was one! I counted 15 times I fell off the plastic obstacles ? and believe me, that was the easy part. Getting back up there was a real effort! Congratulations to all students who had a very happy, challenging and exhausting 50 minutes of high impact exercise. Lunch was scrumptious ? thanks to Magda, Marius and the crew. A truly exciting day!

Australia Day

Despite the very reasonable debate surrounding this event, it was great to see a female scientist, Professor Michelle Simmons who is a world leader in the area of quantum physics, become our Australian of the Year this year! Samantha Kerr Soccer Player extraordinaire is the Young Australian of the Year.

Super Red Blue Moon

The event will take place in the middle of the night on January 31 and has avid stargazers and celestial photographers chomping at the bit.

"This is an extremely unusual occurrence. It will be unlikely for all three celestial events to converge again within the next century," said Professor Bill Boyd from the School of Environment, Science and Engineering at Southern Cross University.

Across the New South Wales' North Coast and Gold Coast, the super red blue moon starts at 10.48pm eastern standard time, eclipsing fully from 11.51pm to 1.07am, and ending at 2.11am.

Chinese New Year ? Friday 16 February 2018

According to the Chinese 12-year animal zodiac cycle, the Chinese year beginning in 2018 is the year of the Dog.

2018 School Photos

We hope to have our school photos in Term 1 this year. We often use the photos for awards and other activities, and it would be great to have more current photos earlier in the year.

Parent Information Session

We have pencilled in a tentative date for a catch up with all parents on Wednesday 14 February. However, I understand that there may be a few working parents who'd like to come along but would be unable to make it for our usual time slot of morning tea. We're asking all families to let us know whether they'd prefer a morning tea, afternoon tea or evening catch up session at the school to discuss the coming year. Please let us know your thoughts in the attached survey slip so that we can try to accommodate everyone.

Before completing our first newsletter for 2018, all members of staff join me in saying thanks for the lovely good wishes and gifts that came our way prior to the Christmas break!

Thanks everyone for your ongoing support and friendship. Pam Everingham Teaching Principal

P&C News

A big welcome back to everyone for a new year ? especially our new families. We hope that everyone had a great holiday!

Our first P&C meeting for the year will be next Friday 9 February, followed by our AGM at the next meeting on Friday 9 March.

We look forward to working with staff to achieve great things for our school!
